Shutout exhibition win for UVV
Nederlands
UTRECHT (Neth.) - UVV registered a 10-0 shutout exhibition victory on Thursday-evening against First Divisionist Vos Cardinals in a game that was added to their exhibition schedule last week. UVV's new Head Coach Royce Holder last year was in charge of the Cardinals, whom he guided to the championship in the Second Division, resulting in promotion to the First Division.

This weekend, UVV closes its exhibition season with two games against Corendon Kinheim. These two games will decide the championship of this years exhibition season. When UVV wins one of the two games, its becomes the exhibition champion, but when Kinheim wins twice, the Haarlem-squad will end up in first place. With tonight's win, UVV shares first place with DOOR Neptunus, who has no exhibition games left, as they started their regular season on Thursday.

Five UVV-pitchers combined on a 7-inning No-Hitter and allowed only four players to reach base, including two on a walk.

UVV collected 12 basehits, including three by Jeff Delfina. Cuban Fausto Álvarez Rizo, who arrived earlier in the week, played in his first exhibition game of the season and went 2-for-4, scored once and had one RBI.

UVV led only 3-0 when the sixth inning started, but then rallied for six runs to take a commanding lead. The team scored the first run in the first inning when Delfina led off with a single, stole second, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a grounder by next batter Rutger Veugelers. Two runs were added in the second inning thanks to singles by Jirka Bliek and Delfina.

In the sixth inning, UVV scored six runs on five hits. After an RBI-double by Danny Rombley, RBI-singles followed by Giovanni Samboe and Shurty Tremus. When the bases got loaded, Norbert Jongerius, who was added to the batting order as an additional batter in the fifth inning, tripled to bring in three more runs and make it 9-0. The tenth run was scored in the seventh at bat on an RBI-single by Álvarez.
