GROSSETO (Italy) -

In the first inning, with two outs, Carlos Duran and Wuilliams Vasquez hit back-to-back homeruns off Grosseto-starter Chris Cooper to give San Marino an early lead.
Grosseto got one run back in the third at bat, but then San Marino added a run in the fourth inning on an RBI-single by Cuban-born turned Italian Laidel Chapelli.
San Marino increased the lead to 5-1 in the fifth inning when Anthony Granato led off with a homerun and Jairo Ramos Gizzi hit a sac-fly.
However, in the home of the fifth, Grosseto reacted with three runs, which were scored with two outs.
Two of the runs were unearned, as the Sammarinese defense also committed an error, but Grosseto also left the bases loaded.
In the sixth inning, Grosseto tied the score, which also was an unearned run.
San Marino was unable to add more runs in the last four innings, while Grosseto was turning the game around in its favor.
After San Marino stranded two runners in the top of the ninth inning (Vasquez was walked intentionally), Grosseto struck in their ninth.
The home team got the bases loaded with one out, then San Marino-reliever Peter Avvento gave up a walk-off single to Alessandro Vaglio that gave Grosseto a 6-5 win and resulted in San Marino's first loss of the season.
