SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE, Pennsylvania (USA) -
On Tuesday-evening, Rick van den Hurk won his fifth game of the season, as the Norfolk Tides won 5-3 vs. the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.
Norfolk took an 1-0 lead in the first inning when a run was scored on a wild pitch, but the Yankees came alongside in the second at bat when Van den Hurk gave up an one-out homerun to Brandon Laird.
The Tides then re-took the lead in the third inning and added three runs in the sixth on a sac-fly by Nick Green and a 2-run single by John Hester.
Leading 5-1, Van den Hurk returned to the mound in the bottom of the sixth and then gave up two runs.
After a lead-off single, two errors led to the baserunners on first and second base.
The bases were then loaded when the next batter was hit by a pitch, followed by a 2-run single by Brandlon Laird.
But then the inning ended when a double play followed.
Both teams didn't score in the next three at bats.
Van den Hurk threw six innings, struck out two batters and gave up five hits, but raised his record to 5-7.
