ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - In its second game, DOOR Neptunus nipped MediaMonks RCH, 2-1, to remain unbeaten on the second day of the tenth edition of the Hudson John Tournament. The day started with heavy rain, forcing the games to start more than three hours later than scheduled. Neptunus also won its first game, beating L&D Amsterdam, 5-1. The third game of the day between Sparta/Feyenoord and Amsterdam was canceled, because of rain, and re-scheduled for tomorrow. Yesterday-evening, host Sparta/Feyenoord opened the tournament with a 6-3 victory against MediaMonks RCH.

In its second game, Neptunus faced an early 1-0 deficit, then came alongside and scored the winning run in the fifth and what would be last inning of the game. After both teams were retired in order in the first inning, RCH took an 1-0 lead in the second inning. Czech Jakub Malik led off with a double, moved on a grounder by Ferd van Stekelenburg, then scored on an error by first baseman Raily Legito (who is the team's regular short stop) on a 2-out grounder by Robin Longhurst. Hereafter, RCH got the bases loaded, as starting pitcher Diegomar Markwell hit next batter Reggie Valpoort with a pitch and walked Jim Leijenaar, but the inning ended when Nick Heij grounded out. RCH didn't add more runs. The team stranded a runner in the third, then got another runner in the fifth, but he was caught stealing.

In the second inning, Neptunus-catcher Martijn Meeuwis tried to stretch a double into a triple, but was thrown out by centerfielder Jakub Malik, then the Rotterdam-squad stranded two runners in the third. Jeroen Sluijter led off with a double and moved on a grounder, before Eugene Kingsale walked with two outs, but then Benjamin Dille lined out to second baseman Michael Pluijmers, ending the at bat. In the fourth, two more runners were left behind. RCH's Mexican starter Al Morales hit lead-off batter Raily Legito with a pitch, then also hit Martijn Meeuwis with one out. However, two grounders followed, ending this scoring opportunity.

In the fifth, Neptunus scored two unearned runs off new pitcher Ewout Bos to win the game. Mike Bazuin led off with a single, then advanced on a sac-bunt by rookie Aschwin Rokx, who was added to the team from DOOR Tridents, the club's First Division-team. Bazuin then moved to third base when rookie second baseman Michael Pluijmers made a throwing error on a grounder by Eugene Kingsale, who followed with a stolen base. The tying run was scored when Benjamin Dille hit a sacrifice fly, then Kingsale scored the winning run when Pluijmers also committed an error on a grounder by Raily Legito. It wasn't a lucky day for Pluijmers, who also struckout three times.
