ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - The second day of the tenth edition of the Hudson John Tournament started with heavy rain, forcing the games to start more than three hours later than scheduled. It was hoped to play all three games today, but in the end rain prevented the third game, to be played between Sparta/Feyenoord and L&D Amsterdam, to be played. The game was re-scheduled for tomorrow. Yesterday-evening, host Sparta/Feyenoord opened the tournament with a 6-3 victory against MediaMonks RCH. Today, DOOR Neptunus won its first game, beating L&D Amsterdam, 5-1, then added a 2-1 win in the next game vs. MediaMonks RCH. In Bussum, the complete first day of the 26th In Memoriam Charles Urbanus, Sr. Tournament was canceled because of rain.

With two outs in the first inning, Neptunus opened the score. Amsterdam-starter Jos de Jong then gave up a double to Raily Legito, who then scored when next batter Lennart Koster followed with a single. It appeared that Neptunus was to add another run in the next at bat, as Andy Leer led off with an infield-hit, then Rien Vernooij singled. But Amsterdam turned a double play on a grounder by Jeroen Sluijter, then ended the at bat with a flyout.

In the third inning, Neptunus did score. Eugene Kingsale reached on an error, moved on a grounder and stole third base, then scored on a grounder by Raily Legito. Another run was added in the fourth. Martijn Meeuwis led off with a single, then tried to advance to third base on a single by Andy Leer, but was thrown out at third by rightfielder Bas de Jong. Leer moved two bases on two consecutive wild pitches, before Jos de Jong walked Rien Vernooij. A sacrifice fly by Jeroen Sluijter then made it 3-0.

Two unearned runs were scored in the fifth at bat off new pitcher Raban Schalm. With one out, Raily Legito walked and stole second, then moved when Lennart Koster singled. An error on a grounder by Martijn Meeuwis enabled Legito to score, then Koster scored moments later on a 2-out single by Rien Vernooij.

Amsterdam got a scoring opportunity in the first inning. With two outs, Neptunus-starter Leon Boyd walked Sidney de Jong and gave up a single to Ryan Murphy, who played in his first game for the Amsterdam-squad. After the two advanced on a wild pitch, the inning ended with a groundout.

After leaving a runner in the second and third inning and being retired in order by new pitcher Kevin Heijstek in the fourth and fifth inning, Amsterdam scored its lone run in the sixth. With one out, Sidney de Jong hit his third exhibition homerun, but that was all for the Amsterdam-team.
