ZOETERMEER (Neth.) - After losing its first seven games, Van der Peijl DSC '74 now has won three in a row. On Saturday, the team registered two shutouts against Birds, 7-0 and 6-0. Because of the two losses, Birds now is the only team in last place.
In the opener, American pitcher Lindsay Enders made her debut for DSC and in the Dutch big league by pitching a 5-inning one-hitter. The righthander struckout four batters and gave up her lone basehit in the fourth inning when Kimberly van der Lee led off with a single. Only two other players of Birds were able to reach base and that happened in the second inning when Sandra Rusman reached on an error with one out and Merel Meershoek walked with two outs.
DSC was held hitless for three innings by Kim van Vliet, who gave up a run as a result of an error in the third inning. Meike Hylkema then led off with a walk and advanced to second base on a sac-bunt by Laura Burggraaf. Trying to eliminate Hylkema at second resulted in a throwing error, enabling her to score the first run.
Three runs were added in the next at bat. Inge Consent led off with a triple and scored when Gallieth Haaker hit a sacrifice fly. Lisanne van den Berg then walked, which led to a pitching change. Birds-starter Kim van Vliet was relieved Anne Be Bartels, who was welcomed with an RBI-triple by Cindy Baretta. Moments later, Baretta scored when Lindy Prins reached on an error.
In the fifth inning, the game was put out of reach for Birds when DSC scored three more runs. Ellen Venker started that rally by leading off with a single. After advancing on a sac-bunt and a single by Gallieth Haaker, she scored when Lisanne van den Berg also singled. The bases were then loaded when Cindy Baretta reached on an error. Haaker was then forced out at home on a grounder by Lindy Prins, but another error, this time on a grounder by Meike Hylkema, gave DSC two more runs to make it 7-0. The inning ended when Prins was thrown out at home, trying to score on a single by Laura Burggraaf.
In Game Two, Laura van den Berg went the distance for DSC, struckout five and gave up four hits. Birds-catcher Kim Kafoé had two of them. Only two Birds-players reached second base.
DSC scored all six runs in the second inning on only two basehits. All runs were earned, as one of the hits was a homerun and four walks contributed to the run production. Lindy Prins led off with a walk and moved on a one-out single by Laura van den Berg. After the two advanced on a passed ball, the bases were loaded when Nanda Eygenhuijsen also walked. Birds-pitcher Rebecca Antonissen kept having problems with her control, as she also walked next batters Ellen Venker and Inge Consent, bringing in the first two runs for DSC. Kim van Vliet then took over the pitching, but uncorked a runscoring wild pitch. After striking out Gallieth Haaker, Van Vliet gave up a towering 3-run inside-the-park-homerun to Lisanne van den Berg that lifted the lead to 6-0. Two more walks followed, but then Jasja Bos struckout for the second time in this inning to end the at bat.
Kim van Vliet gave up four more hits in the remainder of the game, but no DSC-player was able to go beyond first base.

In the opener, Judith van Kampen threw the ninth 7-inning Perfect Game since 1982 and is the sixth pitcher to go the distance. It was only the third Perfect Game by one pitcher thrown in the last 17 years. This was the fifth one-pitcher Perfect Game in a row thrown by a Terrasvogels-pitcher, since Els Koks threw two in 1984. In 1996, Sharon Emanuels (5 innings) and Birgit Ferdinandus (2 innings) combined on a 7-inning Perfect Game for DSC '74, which is the only one thrown by two pitchers.
In 1982, powerpitcher Fredy van Offeren threw the first known Perfect Game, while throwing for HHC (now known as Sparks Haarlem). In the following season, Caroline Fris of Bloemendaal registered two Perfect Games, as did Els Koks in 1984, while pitching for Terrasvogels. In the last 12 years, four more Perfect Game have been thrown, but these games were shorter than seven innings, because of the 10-run difference, mercy-rule.
The last 7-inning Perfect Game was thrown in 2004 by Maaike Zijlstra.
Judith van Kampen struckout twelve batters in the game. Only two times, the ball was hit into the outfield. The first time was in the first inning when Daisy de Peinder flied out to centerfield. The second time was in the fifth when Caroline Sins led off with a flyout in leftfield. Four catches were made in the infield, while one batter fouled out. Two times a grounder resulted in an out.
Terrasvogels was held scoreless in the first four innings by Michelle Haen, but scored three runs in the fifth at bat with two outs. Olga Kleinlooh led off with a walk. After a strikeout, Nicole Wessels reached on an error. The bases were then loaded when Petra van Heijst was hit by a pitch. An infield-fly by pinch-hitter Yvette Krooder then accounted for the second out in the inning. Next, Kleinlooh scored the opening run when Nina van Huissteden singled and Wessels also was able to score when catcher Charlotte Haen dropped the ball after receiving the throw from centerfield. Dana Horeman followed with an RBI-single to make it 3-0.
In the sixth inning, Nathalie Gosewehr led off with a homerun to increase the lead to 4-0.
In Game Two, Kirsten Scheele gave up five hits in five innings and saw Twins come close to runs on a few occassions.
In the first inning, Sandy Lauwers and Daisy de Peinder singled and advanced on a groundout, but then a flyout ended the inning.
In the third inning, Twins got the bases loaded with no outs, but failed to score. Michelle Haen led off with an infield-hit and moved on a single by Fabiënne van Uden, whereafter Sandy Lauwers walked. Daisy de Peinder then grounded into a 5-2-3 double play. The bases were then loaded again when Caroline Sins also walked, but a grounder ended this at bat.
Terrasvogels this time was held scoreless for five innings by American pitcher Andrea Lindgren, who gave up only two basehits in that period.
In the sixth Twins at bat, Judith van Kampen took over the pitching for Terrasvogels and went on to become the winning pitcher, raising her record to 6-0. She earned the win, as Terrasvogels scored three runs in the home of the sixth. With one out, the bases were loaded on consecutive singles by Marieke Jansen, Nina van Huissteden and Linda Hoenderdos. The first run was then scored on a bunt-single by Olga Kleinlooh, which was followed by an infield-fly. Next, Dana Horeman contributed with a 2-run single to increase the lead to 3-0.

DE BILT (Neth.) - Sparks Haarlem remains a close follower of league-leader A4 Terrasvogels, as they won twice against Centrals, 10-1 and 7-0. Coming Saturday, Sparks and Terrasvogels will meet each other in Haarlem.
In the opener, five innings were enough for Sparks to reach the 7-run (or more) difference, but that happened in the last three innings of the game.
Sparks scored its first run in the first inning when Kim Kluijskens led off with a single and was on third base with two outs. She then scored when a flyball by Blake Hoorelbeke was missed in leftfield.
The lead was doubled in the second inning. This time, Chantal Versluis led off with a single and also was on third base with two outs. She scored on a single by Kim Kluijskens, who was 3-for-3.
Centrals came back with a run in the home second. Solange Starrenburg led off with a single and went on to score on a 2-out single by Maud Braakman. But that was to be the lone run for Centrals, as Blake Hoorelbeke allowed only one more player to reach base and retired nine of the next ten batters.
Sparks increased its lead to 4-1 in the third inning on a 2-out, 2-run single by Kinge Bouma.
In the fourth inning, four runs were added. Kim Kluijskens led off with an infield-hit and scored on a triple by Lynn Geertman, who herself scored on a sac-fly by Marloes Fellinger. With two outs, Noémi Boekel walked, then the bases were loaded when Mariska Greve and Chantal Versluis followed with singles. Two runs were then scored when Kinge Bouma again hit a 2-out, 2-run single.
In the fifth, the lead was increased to 10-1 on a 2-out, 2-run single by Noémi Boekel.
Sparks scored eight of its runs in this game with two outs. Winning pitcher Blake Hoorelbeke threw a 3-hitter and struckout eight batters.
In Game Two, Blake Hoorelbeke threw again, as Crissy Autry still was not available due to back-problems. This time, the righthander threw a 2-hit shutout and struckout six batters.
The only time Centrals was close to a run was in the fourth inning when Marieke Brouwer led off with a walk, moved on a sac-bunt and advanced to third on a double by Bianca Hardeveld, but then two outs followed.
Sparks took a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The rally started with an RBI-triple by Lynn Geertman, who then scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Mariska Greve and Kinge Bouma had RBI-singles.
Two runs were scored in the fourth at bat with two outs. With Lyanne Horeman (walk) and Marloes Fellinger (single) on third and second base, Blake Hoorelbeke contributed to her victory with a 2-run double. Two innings later, she added another RBI-double to make it 7-0.
Kim Kluijskens again had three hits in this game and scored twice.

Tex Town Tigers wins and protests

ENSCHEDE (Neth.) - Computer SOS Tex Town Tigers closed its double-header Saturday with a 4-3 victory in eight innings vs. Euro Stars. In the opener, Tex Town Tigers lost 1-0, but filed a protest against the lone run, which was the result of a homerun.
In the first game, only one run was scored and that not only was responsible for the result of the game, but also accountable for a protest. That protest might have an effect on the status of this game, which as of now has been won by Euro Stars.
The lone run was scored in the fourth inning. With one out, Karin Tuk hammered the ball towards centerfield, where it hit the fence and was awarded a homerun. However, Tex Town Tigers protested the decision.
In centerfield there are two fences, a low one and a higher one that is located behind the lower fence. The two fences are connected with a netting. This makes the centerfield-fence higher than those in leftfield and rightfield. According to the reports, the ball hit the high netting of the centerfieldfence, which is located behind the smaller fence, so a homerun was declared. Tex Town Tigers states that both fences form one fence and that this is no homerun. It is now up to the Committee of Protests to look into this case and make a decision on the status of this game. When awarded, the game has to be replayed from the moment Karin Tuk hit the ball in the fence. When the homerun stands, Euro Stars wins the game, 1-0.
Euro Stars was close to another run in the seventh inning when Areke Spel led off with a triple. But she was thrown out after a pick-off by the catcher, resulting in a rundown.
Tex Town Tigers had five basehits, but reached second base only three times.
Game Two remained scoreless for five innings.
Euro Stars reached base only once in the first five innings and that was when Manon Schol singled in the fourth inning.
The team then took a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning. Marsha-Ann Krul led off with a single, moved on a sac-bunt and scored on a throwing error on a grounder by Anouk van den Heuvel. After the latter stole second, she advanced to third on another sac-bunt and scored on a double by Manon Schol.
Tex Town Tigers left the bases loaded in the second inning, but came alongside in the home sixth. Meike Witteveen led off with a single and Lindsey Meadows reached on an error, resulting in a pitching change. Areke Spel took over from starter Lara Hollander and saw the runners advance on a sac-bunt. An RBI-single by Monique ter Steege and a sac-fly by Mieke van der Zwaan then tied the score.
Euro Stars re-took the lead in the eighth inning, when tie-break runner Marsha-Ann Krul scored on a 2-out single by Shulaika Balentina.
Tex Town Tigers answered with two runs to win the game. With tie-break runner Merel Oosterveld on second, two consecutive errors were made on two sac-bunts that loaded the bases. Mieke van der Zwaan then singled in the tying run, which was followed by a force out at home. With the bases still loaded, Linda ter Steege singled to bring in the winning run and become the winning pitcher.
