HAARLEM (Neth.) - AIMS EHS on Saturday opened with a 4-2 victory vs. Centrals, but then lost Game Two, 5-4.
In the opener, EHS trailed 2-0, then scored four runs in the sixth inning to win.
Centrals scored twice in the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. After Ciro Ricardo had singled in the first inning, EHS-pitcher Erwin Visser retired the next eight batters, before facing Ricardo for the second time. Again, Ricardo reached base, this time with a walk. Roman Matuska then followed with a 2-run homerun, but hereafter Visser would allow only two more batters to reach first base. The veteran righthander struckout ten batters and gave up only four hits.
After leaving five runners in the first five innings, EHS came back with a 4-run rally in the sixth at bat. With one out, Darren Davis (who made his debut) and Etiënne Meijer hit back-to-back homeruns to tie the score. Jeffrey Visser and Erwin Visser then singled. After a strikeout and the two Vissers on third and second base, a grounder by Czech Martin Svoboda (who also played his first game in the Dutch big league) resulted in a throwing error and two more runs for EHS.
In Game Two, Martin Svoboda pitched for EHS, struckout eight and gave up seven hits, but was the losing pitcher, despite another late comeback from his new teammates. It was a Czech match-up, as Roman Matuska threw for Centrals.
Centrals again opened the score when Joost de Bruin walked in the first inning with one out and would score all the way from first on a throwing error. EHS came alongside in the home first. With one out, Anthony Beaumont walked and scored on a 2-out single by Etiënne Meijer.
Both team scored again in the second inning. With two outs, Centrals re-took the lead when Dennis van Brummelen homered. But EHS came alongside again immediately. Eric Zomerdijk walked with one out and went on to score on a 2-out double by Maurice Meijer.
In the third inning, Centrals took the lead for the third time. With one out, Joost de Bruin walked and Ciro Ricardo singled, then Roman Matuska hit his second homerun of the day to give Centrals a 5-2 lead.
The scoring then stopped for Centrals, but EHS remained threatening, leaving the bases loaded in the fifth inning. In the seventh, Anthony Beaumont and Michel Groenhart walked, followed by RBI-singles from Darren Davis and Etiënne Meijer to make it 5-4, still with no outs. But then a line-out, an infield-fly and a strikeout ended the game.

DIEMEN (Neth.) - The headline also could have read 'TIW-Survivors, Kokolishi split too long games', as the game in the Men Softball Big League seems to get longer and longer.
On Saturday, TIW-Survivors won Game One of its double-header vs. Kokolishi 9-8 in a game that lasted two hours and 40 minutes. Then Game Two took three hours and 37 minutes (!!!) minutes to complete seven innings and was won by Kokolishi, 20-19.
Imagine, your an Official Scorer and your orginal assignment for today was the women double-header between Birds and DSC '74, which was to be played close to where you live in Zoetermeer. However, in the preceding week, your assignment changes and you agree to fill in for the men double-header between TIW-Survivors and Kokolishi, which is being played close to Amsterdam in Diemen, meaning about an hour drive. Would you have scored the Birds vs. DSC games, you would be finished after three hours and 14 minutes, but now your double-header takes six hours and 37 minutes to complete! When the second Birds vs. DSC game ended, Game Two in Diemen just was under way for fourteen minutes. At Zoetermeer, there were 13 runs, 18 hits and six errors in the two games. In Diemen, your scorecards were filled with 56 runs, 52 basehits (including 15 homeruns) and seven errors. In the women games, a total of 22 players participated in Game One and 23 in Game Two. In the men games, there were 25 in the opener and 31 in the next. Birds and DSC made four defensive changes and three offensive changes in their double-header. TIW-Survivors and Kokolishi made 23 defensive changes and nine offensive changes. Well, that happened to Leo van den Brun, who took over as Official Scorer for the men softball games and had a day-filling series that ended at 8:37 PM. At that time, players, coaches and officials of the Birds vs. DSC games already were home, as they concluded Game Two at 5:14 PM. Grand Slam * Stats & News checked with Leo and he said his writing arm is doing fine.
In the opener, which lasted 'only' two hours and 42 minutes, the teams combined on 20 basehits, including seven homeruns, six of which were hit by TIW-Survivors. Angelo Clementina and Rody Stam homered twice for the Diemen-team.
Trailing 2-0, TIW-Survivors scored three runs in the home second on a 2-run homerun by Angelo Clementina and an wild pitch.
Kokolishi came alongside in the third on a single by Julius Veeris, but TIW got the run back in the home third when Rody Stam led off with a homerun.
Kokolishi then scored three runs in the fourth on a basesloaded walk, a grounder and a wild pitch. TIW came back with a run in its fourth, but Kokolishi added a run in the fifth on a double by Aldric Dunlop. It is the story of both games in which the lead went back and forth.
Trailing 7-5, TIW re-took the lead by scoring three runs in the fifth when Rody Stam, Angelo Clemensia (back-to-back) and Angelo Clementina all homered.
Again, Kokolishi came back to tie the score in the sixth when Julius Veeris tripled and scored on a sac-fly by Gerald Dunlop.
TIW reacted with a run in its sixth when Rien Smulders walked and went on to score what would be the winning run on a 2-out single by Rody Stam.
In Game Two, a 7-run lead in the first inning proved to be not enough for TIW-Survivors. This time, the teams, which used 31 players, combined on 32 basehits, including eight homeruns.
In the first inning, TIW had eight basehits, including a 3-run homerun by Carlos Adamus and RBI-doubles by Melvin Brown, Randy Lo-A-Tjong (2-run) and Merlijn Brink.
Kokolishi came back with three runs in the second inning on five hits, then the scoring went into high pace.
Trailing 8-3, Eugene Martha hit a 2-run homerun for Kokolishi in the third, but Melvin Brown answered with a 3-run shot in the home third.
A grounder and two wild pitches gave Kokolishi three runs in the fourth, but TIW again came back with two runs.
Trailing 13-8, Kokolishi closed in to 13-12 in the fifth when Roderick Postina and Julius Veeris hit 2-run homeruns. A wild pitch and a grounder gave TIW two more runs in the home fifth.
The turn-around of the game happened in the sixth at bat. Trailing 15-12, Kokolishi rallied for six runs. The team took a 16-15 lead on a grand slam homerun by Enio Kwas, then added two runs on a wild pitch and a basesloaded walk to make it 18-15. Again TIW came back with two runs, this time on a 2-out, 2-run single by Carlos Adamus, who had five RBI's.
Now leading only 18-17, it was Kokolishi's turn to score twice again in the seventh inning. With two outs, Anthony Hooi tripled and scored ona wild pitch, while the other run was scored on an RBI-double by Irvin Redan.
In the home seventh, TIW scored two runs for the fourth inning in a row and almost forced extra innings. Angelo Clementina led off with his third homerun of the day. With one out, Randy Lo-A-Tjong walked and would score on a 2-out wild pitch. Rien Smulders then grounded towards third base and was out at first on a close play to end the game, which set a record for longest 7-inning game.

SPIJKENISSE (Neth.) - Spikes shutout RCH-Pinguïns twice on Saturday, 8-0 and 5-0 for their first victories of the season.
In the opener, winning pitcher Jan Zelenka gave up four hits and struckout eight. He was supported with runs in every inning of this 4 1/2 inning game.
In the first inning, Spikes scored twice on a wild pitch and a grounder.
The lead was doubled in the second inning. Marcel Swarttouw then led off with a walk and Evert Versloot followed with a 2-run homerun.
In the third at bat, an RBI-single by Jan Zelenka made it 5-0.
The 7-run difference (or more) was reached in the fourth inning. Stefan Thilemans first reached second base on an error, then scored on a single by Wout Cnops, who would score moments later on an error. That was made on a grounder by René Koelink, who then scored on a wild pitch.
In Game Two, Arjan Baanen went the distance for Spikes and threw a one-hitter. The lone basehit he gave up was hit in the first inning when Jur van Dijk singled with two outs. Baanen then retired the next 12 batters in a row, before walking Hiro Kakizoë.
Spikes again opened the score in the first inning when Wout Cnops led off with a double and scored on a sac-fly by Ben ten Pas. The play was close at home, but Cnops was called safe by Home Plate Umpire Ponky Rohan, much to the upset of catcher Bart Vleggaar, who argued the call and was ejected.
In the third inning, Cnops again led off with a double and this time scored on an infield-hit by Ben ten Pas.
In the sixth inning, three runs were added. With pinch-runner Aad v.d. Lande and Raduen Abdul Hamid (infield-hit) on base, a fly by Jan Zelenka was missed in leftfield, resulting in the three runs.
