Nederlands
- ALKMAAR (Neth.) - Alcmaria Victrix defeated Hoofddorp Pioniers 9-2 and 9-0 on Saturday to claim the title in the First Division and with that promotes to the Dutch Major League.
For Alcmaria, the promotion will mark the return to the big league next season after an 11-year absence in the highest league.
Alcmaria Victrix played in the Dutch big league in 1998 and 1999 and was led back then by former National Team Head Coach George Presburg.
In the two seasons combined, the team won 12 games (three in 1999) and lost 49.
Playing in this year's team are six players, who a week ago participated with the Dutch National Junior Softball Team in the European Championship in Vienna (Austria), being Jessie van Aalst, Noemie Brandjes, Nadia Bron, Kimberly Jones, Suzanne Meiring and Laura Treurniet.
Alcmaria is led by former National Team Player and Coach Gonny Farley.
Following Alcmaria in the ranking are Gryphons and Robur '58 (who both relegated from the big league last season).
Gryphons is 17-11, while Robur is 16-11 with one tie.
Both teams will meet Alcmaria in the remainder of the season, but also will play each other in a double-header.
The team that finishes in second plays earns the right to play against the number 7 placed team of the big league in a best-of-five promotion/relegation Play-Off.
