European Cup Tournaments awarded to Italy
ANTWERP (Belgium) - During a recent meeting in Antwerp (Belgium), the European Softball Federation (ESF) has awarded the organization for the A-pool tournaments of both the European Cup and the Cup Winners Cup to Italy. This year, both A-pool tournaments were played for the first time in history at the same site, which was Haarlem (Netherlands).

The European Cup Tournament will be played in 2011 in Caserta, while the Cup Winners Cup Tournament will take place in Udine and Castions di Strada. This latter also was one of the sites during the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in 2007.

In 2011, Dutch champion Sparks Haarlem and Tex Town Tigers (which captured the European Cup in Haarlem) will participate in the European Cup Tournament in Caserta, while Iber Lengua Terrasvogels will participate in the Cup Winners Cup Tournament in Udine and Castions di Strada. For Terrasvogels, this will be its 31st appearance in an European Cup-event, which is the most by any club in history.

Both events also were held in Italy in 2009 when the tournaments were played in Legnano and Parma respectively. It marks the fourth time (in seven years) that both tournaments are held in Italy in the same year and the seventh time overall.
