Victories Tex Town Tigers, Sparks Haarlem

ENSCHEDE / DE BILT (Neth.) - Tex Town Tigers and Sparks Haarlem on Saturday won, as Game 2 was played in the best-of-five softball Play-Offs. Tex Town Tigers trailed 1-0, but then came alongside in the sixth and scored another run in the seventh to win 2-1 vs. Iber Lengua Terrasvogels to take a 2-0 lead in their series. Sparks Haarlem outscored Centrals 11-1 in four innings to even their series, after the latter openened on Thursday with a surprise victory. The Play-Offs continue on Sunday with games in Santpoort and Haarlem.



Tex Town Tigers vs. Terrasvogels, 2-1

At Enschede, reigning champion Tex Town Tigers came back from an 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 vs. Terrasvogels and take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five Play-Off.

Both teams didn't got much runners on base in the first five at bats. For Terrasvogels, Linda Hoenderdos led off with a single in the first inning, but then TTT-pitcher Lindsey Meadows retired the next nine batters in a row. In the fourth, Shannah van der Kaaij led off with a single, but again three outs followed. Terrasvogels then opened the score in the sixth at bat. Femke Haage led off with a single and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Linda Hoenderdos. With two outs, Christina Rolla doubled to give Terrasvogels an 1-0 lead, but a strikeout ended the inning.

Tex Town Tigers left two runners in the first inning. Merel Oosterveld (lead-off) and Karin Tuk (with two outs) walked, but then Terrasvogels-pitcher Femke van Dusschoten followed with a strikeout and retired seven batters in a row. With one out in the fourth, she gave up a single to Karin Tuk, but two outs followed. In the fifth, Kirsten Holshof singled with two outs, which was only the second off Van Dusschoten, but despite that, she was relieved by Aimee Murch. The Australian pitcher gave up a bunt-single to Merel Oosterveld, but then Dinet Oosting lined out to end the inning.

After Terrasvogels had taken an 1-0 lead in the sixth, Tex Town Tigers came alongside in the home of the sixth. Virginie Anneveld led off with a single, then Lindsey Meadows singled with one out. Next, Nadine Marinus also singled to bring in the tying run. Another single, this time by Meike Witteveen followed to load the bases, but then a strikeout and foul-out ended the inning.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, Mariëlle Vleugels reached for Terrasvogels on an error, but stranded. In the home of the seventh, Tex Town Tigers decided the game in its favor. Merel Oosterveld led off with a single and advanced on a sac-bunt by Dinet Oosting, then scored on a single by Virginie Anneveld.



Centrals vs. Sparks Haarlem, 1-11

At De Bilt, Sparks Haarlem, which opened the Play-Offs with a loss, decided Game Two early by scoring four runs in the first inning, before the first out was registered. Nathalie Gosewehr led off with a single and moved on a passed ball, then advanced on a bunt-single by Chantal Versluis, who then stole second base, which led to a throwing error, enabling Gosewehr to score. Versluis then scored when pitcher Vendy Draha made a throwing error on a sac-bunt by next hitter Kim Kluijskens, who ended up on second base, then scored when Debby Connor followed with a homerun to make it 4-0. Eva Voortman took over the pitching, gave up an one-out double to Noémi Boekel and walked Kim Kafoé with two outs, but ended with a strikeout.

In the home of the first inning, Centrals got one run back. JJ Hartung led off with a single, advanced on a passed ball and a grounder by Anne Blaauwgeers, then scored on a sac-fly by Silea Bos.

In the second inning, Sparks added two runs when Chantal Versluis singled with one out and scored on a triple by Kim Kluijskens, who then scored herself on a sac-fly by Debby Connor.

Three runs were then scored in the third inning on a 2-run triple by Nathalie Gosewehr and single by Chantal Versluis. Sparks increased the lead to 11-1 in the fourth at bat when Areke Spel hit a 2-run homerun.

The lead-off single by JJ Hartung was the lone one by Centrals in this game off Kirsten Scheele, who struckout four. Sparks collected eleven hits, including three by Chantal Versluis.

With the win, Sparks evened its Play-Off, 1-1.
