Tex Town Tigers continues winning streak

DE BILT / HAARLEM / SANTPOORT / OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) - Tex Town Tigers won big twice on Saturday, beating DSS 11-0 and 10-2 to extend its winning streak to eight games. In the opener, Lindsey Meadows threw a 4-inning Perfect Game, while Nadine Marinus hit two RBI-doubles. In Game 2, TTT collected 13 basehits, including three by Merel Oosterveld. Sparks Haarlem won 5-0 and 3-1 vs. Centrals. In the opener, Dagmar Bloeming pitched an one-hitter, while Kirsten Scheele struckout 10 batters in Game 2. Iber Lengua Terrasvogels won twice vs. Euro Stars, 6-3 and 3-1. In the opening game, Aimee Murch struckout 10, then Femke van Dusschoten threw a 2-hitter in the next game. Linda Hoenderdos had four basehits in this double-header. Twins won 5-0 and 3-1 vs. DSS. Andee Lindgren was the winning pitcher in both games, striking out 12 in the opener and four in Game 2. In Game 2, Twins trailed 1-0 when it scored three runs in the sixth at bat.

Centrals vs. Sparks Haarlem, 0-5, 1-3
DE BILT (Neth.) - Dagmar Bloeming gave up only one basehit in the opening game of this double-header. The national team-pitcher struckout four batters and allowed only four players to reach base. In the second inning, with one out, Silea Bos singled for Centrals, which was to be the lone basehit for her team. Bos was the lone player to reach base twice, as she also walked in the fifth inning.

Sparks Haarlem scored two runs in the second inning. Debby Connor led off with a walk, then scored when Noémi Boekel followed with a double. Moments later, the latter scored on a throwing error. Three runs were added in the fifth at bat. Rebecca Soumeru, who played in leftfield in this game, led off with a triple and scored when Nathalie Gosewehr also tripled with one out.

Next batter Chantal Versluis then struckout, but reached on a passed ball. The two runners both scored when Kim Kluijskens hit a double to make it 5-0.

In Game Two, Sparks Haarlem opened the score in the first inning. With one out, Chantal Versluis walked, then stole both second and third base and scored when an error was made. Kim Kluijskens then singled and went on to score on a 2-out double by Noémi Boekel. Areke Spel also doubled, but two runners were left behind, as a grounder followed.

Centrals answered with a run in its first at bat when Anne Blaauwgeers reached on an error and scored on a grounder by Amber Dammers. Sparks got the run back in the fifth inning when Kim Kluijskens (who was 3-for-3) singled with one out, moved on an error and scored on a wild pitch by Canadian Molly Yetman. Centrals left the bases loaded in the third inning, but then got no more scoring opportunities in the remainder of the game off Kirsten Scheele, who struckout ten batters and gave up five hits.

Tex Town Tigers, which announced after the weekend it is not affiliated anymore to its main sponsor Computer SOS, opened the score in Game One in the second inning. With one out, Virginie Anneveld doubled and scored when Nadine Marinus also doubled with two outs. In the next at bat, Tex Town Tigers rallied for seven runs. Dinet Oosting (walk) then scored on a sacrifice fly by Petra van Heijst, while Merel Oosterveld (single) scored when runner Kirsten Holshof got into a rundown after the sac-fly. Next, Karin Tuk doubled and scored on a single by Virginie Anneveld. After Lindsey Meadows walked, Nadine Marinus doubled in another run. Two more runs were then scored when an error was made on a grounder by Marije ten Thij, who then also scored when another error was made on a grounder by Dinet Oosting. Hereafter, Olympia-starter Rosanne de Vries was replaced by Deion van der Voort, who gave up three more runs in the fourth inning. Petra van Heijst (single) then scored on a basesloaded error on a grounder by Lindsey Meadows, Karin Tuk (walk) scored on a force play-grounder by Nadine Marinus and Meadows scored on a basesloaded walk for Oosting to make it 15-0, enough to end the game after four innings.

Pitcher Lindsey Meadows retired all 12 batters she faced in this 4-inning game, including five with a strikeout, to register the first Perfect Game of the season.

In Game Two, Tex Town Tigers trailed 2-0 after the first inning. Courtney Lyons led off for Olympia Haarlem with a single and Marisèla de Wind singled with one out. Hereafter, Maranca Ham doubled to bring in both runners. But in the next five innings, only three more batters reach base and no more runs were added. On the other hand, Tex Town Tigers scored 10 runs to also end this game with a mercy-rule victory.

TTT scored its first run in the second inning on an RBI-single by Nadine Marinus (who had four RBI's today). Then three runs were added in the third at bat, thanks to an error and a 2-run double by Karin Tuk. Leading 4-2, Tex Town Tigers rallied for six runs in the sixth inning on seven basehits. Merel Oosterveld had two singles in this at bat. After hitting her first, Petra van Heijst singled with one out and the two scored on a single by Karin Tuk, who had four RBI's. An error, a single by Marije ten Thij and the second hit by Oosterveld then increased the lead to 10-2.

Iber Lengua Terrasvogels vs. Euro Stars, 6-3, 3-1
SANTPOORT (Neth.) - Iber Lengua Terrasvogels, which committed seven errors in the double-header, won twice vs. Euro Stars, 6-3 and 3-1. In the opening game, Aimee Murch struckout 10, then Femke van Dusschoten threw a 2-hitter in the next game. Linda Hoenderdos had four basehits in this double-header.

Terrasvogels opened the score in the first at bat when Linda Hoenderdos (who hit three singles in the first three innings) led off with a single, moved on singles by Shannah van der Kaaij and Christina Rolla and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kate Gentile. A 5-run rally then followed in the second inning when Terrasvogels registered some big extra basehits. Marije Schoenmaker led off with a triple and scored on a 2-out single by Linda Hoenderdos. Next, Shannah van der Kaaij also tripled to bring in another run. After Christina Rolla walked, another triple followed, this time off the bat of Kate Gentile to increase the lead to 5-0. It marked the end for starting pitcher Daisy verstappen, who was replaced by Rebecca Antonissen, who was greeted with an RBI-single by Solange Starrenburg, but then silenced the Terrasvogels-offense for the remainder of the game. She gave up one more additional basehit, a 2-out single by Solange Starrenburg in the fourth.

Euro Stars narrowed the deficit by scoring three runs in the third. Michelle van Driel and Ellen Venker then singled and Kim Donkers followed with an RBI-single. A 2-out single by Anouk van den Heuvel and an error on a grounder by Daisy Verstappen then gave Euro Stars two more runs, but from here Aimee Murch gave up no more runs. The Australian pitcher struckout 10 batters and gave up one more additional hit in the remainder of the game, a single by Kim Donkers in the fifth.

In Game Two, Euro Stars took an 1-0 lead in the second inning off Femke van Dusschoten, who struckout eight and gave up only two basehits. But the two hits didn't contribute to Euro Stars' lone run. With two outs, Daphne Endlich and Michelle van Driel walked, then an error was made on a grounder by Ellen Venker to load the bases. Kim Donkers followed with another walk to bring in the run, but then three runners stranded when a strikeout ended the at bat.

Terrasvogels reacted with two runs in the third inning off American starter Laura Benardinelli. With one out, Linda Hoenderdos reached on an infield-hit and advanced to third base when an error was made on a sac-bunt by Shannah van der Kaaij. Some back and forth throwing followed and when Hoenderdos tried to score in this situation, she was thrown out at the plate. Christina Rolla then walked and Kate Gentile came through with a 2-run double to give Terrasvogels a 2-1 lead. In the fifth inning, the home team added an insurance run. Femke Haage then walked, stole second base and went on to score on a single by Rolla.

OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) - Twins won 5-0 and 3-1 vs. DSS. Andee Lindgren was the winning pitcher in both games, striking out 12 in the opener and four in Game 2. In Game 2, Twins trailed 1-0 when it scored three runs in the sixth at bat.

In the opener, DSS was close to a run in the first at bat when a runner was thrown out at the plate, but then was silenced by Andee Lindgren, who, after giving up a 2-out single to Marijke van Veen, retired eleven batters from the second through sixth inning, including six with a strikeout. In the sixth and seventh, DSS got on base again off Lindgren, who struckout 12 and gave up only one basehit in the last five innings.

Twins stranded two runners in the first inning, but then scored a run in the second on a 2-out single by Evelien Vonk. Another run was added in the third, thanks to two Belgian players on the TWins-roster. Sarah Van Der Meiren led off with a single and scored on a 2-out single by Sandy Lauwers. In the fifth, Twins scored two unearned runs when DSS committed three errors, then the fifth run was added in the sixth when another error was made by the Haarlem-defense.

In Game Two, DSS took an 1-0 lead in the third inning. With one out, Kelly Zuurendonk singled and went on to score on a double by Julie Owen. Hereafter, Twins-hurler Andee Lindgren retired nine batters in a row and gave up no more runs, but had to wait until the sixth inning to earn her second win of the day. Amanda Hess, the American pitcher for DSS gave up an one-out single to Fabienne van Uden in the first inning, but then held Twins hitless in the next three innings. In the fifth, Evelien Vonk and Micky Jansen singled for Twins, but both stranded. Twins then struck in the sixth inning. Lead-off hitter Sarah Van Der Meiren was hit by a pitch and Daisy de Peinder reached on an error. With one out, a single by Andee Lindgren led to the tying run, then a grounder by Sandy Lauwers gave Twins the lead, which was increased by a run when Lieke Duffhues added an RBI-triple.
