Terrasvogels beats Juniors
Nederlands
SANTPOORT (Neth.) - Iber Lengua Terrasvogels on Sunday won 6-4 and 12-0 vs. the Dutch Junior Softball Team to move back into the top-4 of the Dutch big league. However, the Juniors gave another opponent a scare today. After forcing Dutch champion Computer SOS Tex Town Tigers to score the winning run in the last inning in the second game of their double-header last week, today the Juniors were leading 4-2 in the fifth inning against the vice-champion and winner of last years Cup Winners Cup. Trailing 2-0, the Juniors rallied for four runs in the second inning and held onto the lead until Terrasvogels came alongside in the fifth. Terrasvogels then decided the game in the sixth on an RBI-triple by Kate Gentile and single by Solange Starrenburg. In the second inning, Femke van Dusschoten took over the pitching, struckout 10 and gave up only one more hit in the remainder of the game.

In Game Two, it went a lot easier for Terrasvogels, which comfortably won 12-0 in five innings on 13 basehits, including three by Marije Schoenmaker. Winning pitcher Aimee Murch threw a 2-hitter with both hits being registered by Dinet Oosting.

In the opening game, Terrasvogels stranded two runners in the first inning, but then scored twice in the second at bat off starter Inge Tishauser. With two outs, Iris Kolman singled and scored on a triple by Femke Haage, who then scored herself on a single by Linda Hoenderdos. But, trailing 2-0, the Dutch Juniors reacted with four runs in the home of the second inning. Dinet Oosting and Nadia Bron (bunt) led off with singles, then advance on a sac-bunt by Noëmie Brandjes. Next, a run was scored when an error was made on a grounder in front of home plate by Rebecca Duindam. A triple down the third base line by Sophie Bugter gave the Juniors a 3-2 lead. Moments later, she was thrown out at the plate, trying to score on a grounder by Monique Melissant. Jessie van Aalst followed with a double to bring the runner to third base. The bases were then loaded when Suzanne Meiring walked and another run was scored when Laura Treurniet singled. With the bases loaded, Femke van Dusschoten took over the pitching for starter Mariëlle Vleugels and ended the inning with a strikeout. From here on, Van Dusschoten domimated, as she retired 16 of the 17 batters she faced in the remainder of the game. After retiring 10 batters in a row, she gave up a single to Nadia Bron, then retired the next six batters again.

Trailing 4-2, Terrasvogels was held hitless and scoreless in the third and fourth inning by Jessie van Aalst. Terrasvogels then tied the score in the fifth inning off new pitcher Laura Treurniet, scoring two unearned runs. Christina Rolla led off with a single and, with two outs, Marije Schoenmaker walked, then stole second base. On the throw, Rolla was able to score. An error on a fly by Aimee Murch enabled Schoenmaker to score the tying run.

In the sixth inning, Terrasvogels scored two more runs (again with two outs) to take a 6-4 lead. Linda Hoenderdos led off with a bunt-single, then scored on a 2-out triple by Kate Gentile, who scored moments later when Solange Starrenburg singled.

In Game Two, the game was scoreless for three innings, but then Terrasvogels rallied for five runs in the fourth and seven in the fifth at bat to take a comfortable 12-0 lead and end the game prematurely thanks to the mercy-rule. Terrasvogels-hurler Aimee Murch went the distance, struckout four batters and gave up only two hits, both hit by Dinet Oosting.

Junior-starter Marjolein Merkx retired the first six batters, then gave up an infield-hit to Marije Schoenmaker, who was then caught stealing, followed by a flyout and strikeout. But in the fourth inning, Linda Hoenderdos led off with a double, then Christina Rolla walked with one out and Kate Gentile singled to bring in the first run. After a pitching change, Solange Starrenburg also singled and Mariëlle Vleugels added a 2-run double. Moments later, the latter was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a single by Marije Schoenmaker, who then went on to score the fifth run in the at bat when Iris Kolman's single was followed by an error.

In the fifth inning, seven runs were scored. In this at bat, Christina Rolla hit an RBI-triple, which was followed by an RBI-double by Kate Gentile, an RBI-single by Solange Starrenburg, a walk for Mariëlle Vleugels and the third single in this game by Marije Schoenmaker. A walk for Iris Kolman led to another run and a pitching change. Singles by Linda Hoenderdos and Shannah van der Kaaij and a basesloaded walk for Christina Rolla increased the lead to 12-0.
