OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) - The softball-team of Twins will be led in 2012 by former National Team-player Daisy de Peinder, the club announced on September 1. De Peinder, who played her entire career for Twins, except for one season in Italy, will succeed Ton van Koeverden, whom she assisted this season.

Daisy de Peinder retired as an active player after completion of last season, then in late September last year was named Assistant Coach for this season, while Ton van Koeverden became the new Head Coach. van Koeverden succeeded René Roovers (who was the interim-coach after having taking over the team in mid-season), who during this season re-joined the coaching staff as an assistant. Coming Saturday, Van Koeverden will lead Twins for the last time this season when it concludes the Play-Downs with a double-header at home vs. Centrals. This season, Twins finished in sixth place with an 11-17 record and currently is 1-1 in the Play-Downs.

Ton van Koeverden was in his first season with Twins after having been the Head Coach of Euro Stars in 2010. He made his coaching debut in the big league in 2005 when he was an assistant at DSC '74, then served as Head Coach of that team in 2006 and 2007. A year later, Van Koeverden led Centrals, then didn't coach in 2009. After completion of this years regular season, Van Koeverden's record as Head Coach in the big league is 62-102-1.

Daisy de Peinder started her softball-career with Twins in 1982 and her big league-debut with the team in 1993. This started a career of 17 seasons with the team from Oosterhout, all on the big league-level. She only missed the 2007 season, when she played for Macerata in the Italian Softball League. In her 17 seasons with Twins, she appeared in 462 games, most of them as short stop. From 1996-2001, she also played at several colleges in the USA, Tallahassee Community College (1996-1997), St. Louis Community College (1998-1999) and Columbus State University (2000-2001).

In 1997, Daisy de Peinder made her debut in the Dutch National Softball Team and went on to play in 146 games for the national squad, participating in numerous events, including three World Championships, five European Championshiops, the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing (China), three Olympic Qualifiers, four Canada Cups and two Haarlem Softball Weeks.

In 2004, Daisy de Peinder already served as Assistant Coach, while also also playing for Twins. In the same season, she filled in as Head Coach for a few games when a coaching change was made in mid-season.

In the announcement, Twins stated that Van Koeverden was to coach Twins with a special assignment, being preparing De Peinder to learn the specific tasks of the coaching trade. The board of Twins expected that to be a two-year period. The release continues: ,,The experienced coach from Amsterdam succeeded very well in his assignment. De Peinder show herself a good student and Van Koeverden succeeded to prepare De Peinder within one year to be ready to assume the role of Head Coach''. With De Peinder at the helm, Twins hopes to be a contender again for the Play-Offs next season.
