Regular season ends with big shutout Terrasvogels
Nederlands
OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) - The regular season ended on Sunday, August 28 with a big 14-0 shutout of Iber Lengua Terrasvogels in a make-up game at Twins. The game was played one day after the scheduled start of the additional round, but on Saturday, all games rained out. Terrasvogels was to play a double-header at Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem, while Olympia Haarlem hosted Alcmaria Victrix. Both double-headers will now be played on Sunday, September 4.

The game between Twins and Terrasvogels initially was scheduled for July 16 as second game of a double-header, but then rained out and was re-scheduled initially for Thursday, August 25. However, this date was moved forward to Tuesday, August 23, despite the fact that Terrasvogels returned on Sunday-evening from Italy where it participated in the Cup Winners Cup-tournament. On the same day, a make-up game between Tex Town Tigers and Olympia Haarlem (also originally scheduled for Thursday) was scheduled, less than two days after TTT's return from the European Cup-tournament in Italy.

But on Tuesday, the game was canceled due to rain and was re-scheduled for Thursday. While the teams were on the field, the game was postponed for 30 minutes, while work continued on the playing field, but in the end it remained unplayable due to the rain of the previous days. And so, the game was canceled for the third time and moved to today. With this, the regular season ended.

Terrasvogels today collected 16 basehits, including four by Marisèla de Wind (who went 4-for-4 and scored three runs) and three by Mariëlle Vleugels (3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI's) and triples by Solange Starrenburg (who also scored three runs), Anouk van den Heuvel and Marije Schoenmaker.

Winning pitcher Kate Vanderham went the distance and only gave up a 2-out single to Evelien Vonk in the fourth inning.

Terrasvogels set the tone by scoring four runs in the first inning. After loading the bases, Mariëlle Vleugels hit a 3-run double, then scored herself on a single by Anouk van den Heuvel.

After scoring runs in the second and third inning, two were added in the fourth on a triple by Solange Starrenburg and a grounder by Kate Gentile.

In the fifth inning, Terrasvogels rallied for six runs on six hits, including a lead-off triple by Marije Schoenmaker, which was followed later by a runscoring wild pitch, RBI-single by Marisèla de Wind, 2-run single by Kate Gentile, runscoring error on a grounder by Anouk van den Heuvel and an RBI-single by Marije Schoenmaker, who therefore hit two basehits in this at bat.
