Nederlands

HAARLEM (Neth.) - DSS/Kinheim staged a deciding rally in the second inning en route to a 5-1 victory to also win its second game against Quick Amersfoort on Saturday-afternoon (September 26).

On Thursday-evening, DSS/Kinheim led from the fourth inning on and recorded a 9-7 win.

Today, DSS/Kinheim rallied for four runs in the second inning and hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game.

The Haarlem-team collected eight basehits, including two by Jeldwin Orman.

Quick Amersfoort was limited to four basehits.

(September 26)

Colin van Laar made his first pitching appearance for Quick Amersfoort in the Bottom-4 Pool. The lefthander began with a strikeout, then gave up a single to Jochem Koedijk. Van Laar retired the next two batters, one of them with another strikeout, while Koedijk stranded on second base after having advanced on a passed ball.

DSS/Kinheim then struck in the bottom of the second inning with a 4-run rally. Three runs were unearned, as two errors contributed in the scoring. With one out, Donny Kuijper walked and Aidan Finnegan reached on an error. The bases got loaded when Marcel Tolenaars also walked. Matis Crouwel followed with a runscoring single, then another run was scored when Bram Blokker walked. With the bases still loaded, a sacrifice fly by Jochem Koedijk brought in Finnegan. Crouwel advanced to third base on the flyout, then scored when a pick-off to first base ended in a throwing error. Colin van Laar closed with a strikeout, but DSS/Kinheim had taken a decisive lead.

In the top of the third inning, Quick scored what would be its lone run today. Lead-off hitter Amar van Zwieten reached on an error, then moved on a single by Denzel Brooks. The two runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jordy Burger. Hereafter, Van Zwieten scored on a sacrifice fly by Jules Cremer, then Brooks was left behind on second base.

In the remainder of the game, Quick got only four baserunners with only one of them getting into scoring position.

In the fourth inning, Steven van Groningen gave up an one-out single to Taylor Clemensia, but then struckout the next two batters. With one out in the fifth, Van Groningen walked Denzel Brooks. He moved on a grounder by Jordy Burger, but was left behind on second base.

In the meantime, DSS/Kinheim left three runners behind in scoring position in its third through fifth at bat.

In the bottom of the third, Jan-Willem Geerts took over the pitching for Quick. With one out, he got the bases loaded when Nick Hofer and Donny Kuijper singled and Aidan Finnegan walked. Geerts followed with a strikeout, then a force play-grounder ended the at bat, meaning three runners were left behind. With two outs in the fourth, Geerts gave up a single to Jeldwin Orman. He stole second base, but stranded there.

After Geerts had retired the side in the fifth, DSS/Kinheim added an insurance run in the sixth, but again left three runners behind. Marcel Tolenaars led off with a single, then moved on an one-out single by Bram Blokker and a force play-grounder by Jochem Koedijk. With runners at the corners, Jeldwin Orman delivered an RBI-double. With runners now on second and third base, the home-team got the bases loaded when Kevin Nieveld walked. That led to a new pitching change. Jasper Popken took over and he got an inning-ending force play-grounder from Nick Hofer. And so, the team left three runners behind for the second time.

DSS/Kinheim got its final runner in scoring position in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs, a hit by Jeldwin Orman was missed in the outfield and resulted in a 3-base error. Orman stranded on third base.

Quick was retired in order in the sixth and seventh inning by Steven van Groningen, but then reached base again in the top of the eighth. After having retired nine consecutive batters, Van Groningen gave up an one-out single to Jordy Burger, but he was caught stealing moments later. Van Groningen then walked Jules Cremer and was relieved by Robyn Clara. The closer got an inning-ending flyout, then retired the side in the ninth and ended the game with a strikeout.
