Jurickson Profar back in Major League with San Diego Padres
Nederlands

EL PASO, Texas / HOUSTON, Texas / SAN DIEGO, California (USA) - Outfielder Jurickson Profar is back in the Major League, as he has re-joined the team of San Diego Padres. On Friday (September 8), the team selected the contract of Profar, who at that moment played for El Paso Chihuahuas in Triple-A. The next day, Profar played in his first game for San Diego.

On August 27, Profar was released by Colorado Rockies, where he played in his first season. Four days later, the Curaçao-born, 30-year old Profar signed a Minor League-contract with San Diego Padres.

After coming to an agreement with San Diego, Profar was assigned to El Paso Chihuahuas for whom he then played in four games. In those games, Profar batted .357 (5-for-14) with two homeruns, scored six runs and batted in eight.

After he had been added to the Major League-team, Profar didn't had to travel that much, as he already was in the same state where San Diego would play its next game. Starting on Friday, San Diego would begin a 3-game series at Houston Astros. At that moment, Profar was with his Triple-A team at home in El Paso, which also is located in Texas. The team had completed a series at home on Thursday and had no game scheduled on Friday, so Profar had enough time for the 2-hour flight from El Paso to Houston to join his new team.

Jurickson Profar didn't play yet on Friday, but the next day (Saturday, September 9), he was in the starting line-up as the team's first baseman, hitting seventh. With that Profar was in the same starting line-up as Xander Bogaerts, who was the short stop for San Diego, which eventually lost 7-5. In his first game back with San Diego, Profar batted 3-for-4, including a double and a homerun, scored once and batted in two runs. Aruban-born Bogaerts also hit a double.

Jurickson Profar earlier played three Major League-seasons for San Diego in 2020-2022. After last season, he was a Free Agent, then signed with Colorado in March during Spring Training, one-and-a-half week before the start of the regular season.
