Second game Neptunus vs. Twins Oosterhout ends in 12-inning game
Nederlands

ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - The 10-game winning streak of Curaçao Neptunus ended on Saturday (April 29), as the second game against Twins Oosterhout ended in a 3-3 tie after twelve innings. Neptunus opened the 3-game series on Wednesday-evening with a 10-0 shutout-win in seven innings.

Today, Neptunus trailed 3-1 halfway the eighth inning, but then scored twice to come alongside and force extra innings. As both teams didn't add more runs and so, the game ended with a 3-3 tie.

Both teams collected nine basehits. Marnix Ruben had three basehits for Twins Oosterhout and also stole three bases. For Neptunus, Roger Bernadina, Arthur Bonevacia and Christian Diaz produced two basehits.

It was an exceptional day in the Dutch big league today, as none of the four games finished in nine innings, which is very unique. Besides the 12-inning tie between Neptunus and Twins Oosterhout, the meetingg between Hoofddorp Pioniers and UVV ended with a 4-4 score in twelve innings in a game that lasted more than 4½ hours. HCAW won 3-2 against RCH Memorie Sieraden in ten innings. In the fourth game today, Amsterdam Pirates recorded a huge 21-0 mercy-rule win in seven innings against Quick Amersfoort.

Neptunus took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but then was unable to do some scoring in the next six at bats. In the first seven innings, the home-team left twelve runners behind, six of them in scoring position. In two at bats, Neptunus left three runners behind. Overall, the team stranded sixteen runners, including nine in scoring position and three times the bases loaded.

The first inning went well for Neptunus. In the top of the first inning, Marnix Ruben led off for Twins with a single off of Neptunus-starter Shairon Martis, stole second base with one out and moved to third on a wild pitch with two outs, but was left behind. Moments later, Neptunus opened the score in its first at bat off of Twins-starter Filip Čapka. With two outs, John Polonius reached on an infield-hit. Next batter Dwayne Kemp struckout, but reached on a wild pitch, which enabled Polonius to move to third base. He then scored on a following single by Arthur Bonevacia. Neptunus got the bases loaded when Christian Diaz walked. And so, it appeared that more runs were in the making, but the three runners were left behind, as Sheadion Jamanika's grounder ended the at bat.

Twins got another runner in scoring position in the top of the second inning, but left runners behind on first and second base. The team then came alongside in the third. Marnix Ruben led off with a single and stole both second and third base. With two outs, he scored the tying run on a single by Yurdion Martie. A double play ended the at bat, but the score was 1-1.

The Oosterhout-team then took the lead in the top of the fourth. This time, Luuk Visser led off with a single and also stole second base. He advanced to third base on a grounder by Berend Ruben, then scored on a single by Onne van Gool.

In the sixth inning, Twins had runners on first and second base with two outs. This time, Shairon Martis closed with a strikeout.

Twins then added another run in the top of the seventh. Jerzy van Gool and Marnix Ruben opened the at bat with singles, then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Railison Bentura. With first base open, an intentional walk was issued to Yurdion Martie to create a force play. But Van Gool then scored on a sacrifice fly by Luuk Bun.

In the top of the eighth, Aaron de Groot became the new pitcher for Neptunus. He retired the side, striking out two batters.

After Neptunus had opened the score in the first inning, the team failed to do some more scoring in the next at bat. With one out, Rayshelon Carolina and Stijn van der Meer walked. With two outs, the bases got loaded when John Polonius also walked, but Czech hurler Filip Čapka then closed with a strikeout for Dwayne Kemp. And so, three runners were left behind in the second consecutive at bat.

Čapka retired the side in the third inning, then was relieved by Raf Cocu in the fourth. Now trailing 2-1, Neptunus then got another runner in scoring position in this at bat. Louie-Jay Sienders led off with a single, moved on a sacrifice bunt by Rayshelon Carolina and a single by Roger Bernadina, but stranded on third base.

In the sixth, Neptunus left another runner behind on third base. With one out, Rayshelon Carolina and Stijn van der Meer walked, which led to another pitching change. Simon Gross took over and saw Carolina advance to third base on a passed ball, but stranded there.

With Twins Oosterhout now leading 3-1 in the eighth, Neptunus still appeared to be unable to do something back, but then suddenly struck. Enrique Hatma led off with a single and Rayshelon Carolina walked. After next batter Stijn van der Meer had flied out, lefthander Takuya Fukuda was inserted as new pitcher to face lefthanded hitting Roger Bernadina. He hit the ball down the rightfield-line for a double, which enabled both Hatma and the speedy Carolina to score. And with that, it was a new ball-game, as the score was now 3-3. Bernadina had advanced to third base on the thrown to the infield, but was left behind, as John Polonius flied out and Dwayne Kemp struckout.

After Aaron de Groot had retired the side in the top of the ninth, Neptunus got another change to decide the game, as it again got the bases loaded. But again, the team was unable tot score. Arthur Bonevacia led off with a single, then his pinch-runner Jayden Mohamed advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Christian Diaz. A force play was then created by walking Sheadion Jamanika intentionally. Enrique Hatma indeed followed with a grounder, which led to a force out at third base. Next, the bases got loaded when Rayshelon Carolina was hit by a pitch. But for the third time, the team left three runners behind and so, the game went into extra innings.

In the tenth, both teams were retired in order. Aaron de Groot struckout Luuk Bun and Luuk Visser. Takuya Fukuda struckout Dwayne Kemp. For Kemp, this was his fourth strikeout in the game. It is very rare that the veteran player strikes out this many times in a single game. In the past two seasons, he struckout twice in one game only four times.

In the eleventh, Twins was retired in order again, while Neptunus got one baserunner. With one out, Christian Diaz singled, but a double play followed.

Mike Groen then pitched in the top of the twelfth for Neptunus and also retired the side, striking out two batters. In its final at bat to do some scoring, Neptunus also was retired in order by Fukuda. And that ended the game after three hours and 37 minutes.
