HCAW, Sparta-Feyenoord play second exhibition game
Nederlands
BUSSUM / CAPELLE a/d IJSSEL (Neth.) - Mr. Cocker HCAW and Sparta-Feyenoord today both played their second exhibition game of the season and both won. Just like yesterday, HCAW again decided the game late and initially trailed vs. its Rookie Team, but eventually won, 6-3. After losing its first game yesterday, Sparta-Feyenoord today won big vs. Euro Stars, 14-4, but led only 8-4 after five innings.

Two more games were scheduled for today, but both were cancelled. Hoofddorp Pioniers was to play at ADO, but the field conditions there were not good to play. At Utrecht, Dutch champion DOOR Neptunus was to meet UVV, which returns to the big league this season after taking over the spot which was left vacant when Almere Magpies withdraw. Neptunus would have to do without 10 of its players (including four pitchers), as they all were in Florida with the Dutch Baseball Team. Despite that, Neptunus planned to come to Utrecht for the game and would have used some players of its Rookie League-team Tridents, but of course also regular members of their big league-team. Therefore, Neptunus already booked a bus for the trip to Utrecht, but then UVV (who had three players in Florida, including two pitchers) called off the game.

Mr. Cocker HCAW vs. Mr. Cocker HCAW Rookies
At Bussum, HCAW faced a 2-0 deficit against its Rookie Team after two innings. In the first inning, HCAW-starter Dennis Burgersdijk gave up a 2-out single to Jasper Keizer, who then scored on a double by Dylan de Mello. In the second inning, another 2-out run followed when Jorin van Amstel singled and went on to score in a double-steal situation.

HCAW left eight runners behind in the first five innings, including the bases loaded in the second inning off starter Bob Klarenbeek and relievers Roel Bellinga and Marco Schel. In the first five innings, the team registered only two basehits, a lead-off double by Randy Daal in the second inning and an one-out double by Adrian Anthony in the fifth at bat.

In the sixth, HCAW got one run back when Quensley Bazoer reached on an error and scored on a single by Wesley Bernardus. HCAW then tied the score in the seventh on a basesloaded grounder by Mitchel Koot and took the lead by scoring twice in the eighth at bat. Joep van Els (infield-hit) and Wesley Bernardus (hit by pitch) then scored on a sac-fly by Adrian Anthony and a single by Bart Sabel.

In the eighth, the Rookies narrowed the deficit to 4-3 thanks to an error, but in the home half of the at bat, HCAW added two more runs on a double by Bazoer and single by Anthony, who was 3-for-4. The Rookies collected nine basehits, including four by Dylan de Mello.

Euro Stars vs. Sparta-Feyenoord
At Capelle a/d IJssel, Sparta-Feyenoord scored eight runs in the three middle innings to win big vs. Euro Stars.

Sparta-Feyenoord scored its first run in the second inning off veteran pitcher Orlando Stewart (who turns 45 on March 17), who pitched for several years for the Rotterdam-squad. The lone run the former National Team-hurler gave up was a result of two singles and a groundout.

Leading 1-0, two runs were added in the fourth on two errors off new pitcher Giovanni van der Poel, who then faced a 5-run rally in the fifth at bat. In this inning, the first three batters reached base on a hit batter and two walks. A force play-grounder then led to a run, followed by an RBI-single by Ramiro Balentina. A runscoring error led to another run, as did a single by Imco Rudolph. The fifth run in the inning was scored when Rubinet Koko struckout, but reached on a passed ball.

Trailing 8-0, Euro Stars answered with four runs of their own off Laurens Valdez, who had relieved starter Rudy Seebus. After a lead-off walk, singles by Jeffrey Sprott and Guliano Benito (two runs) and an error in between, gave Euro Stars its four runs.

Sparta-Feyenoord scored another run on an error in the sixth inning, then added four more runs in the seventh, highlighted by 2-run doubles by Emeron Lourens and Brian Biezen.
