Dutch Team to prepare in Arizona

AMSTERDAM (Neth.) - The Dutch National Baseball Team will prepare for the upcoming World Baseball Classic in Scottsdale, Arizona (USA). Some of the players travel to the USA on Saturday, February 9, others the next day. From Arizona, the squad travels to Taiwan, where it will play the first game of the First Round of the WBC against South Korea in Taichung on March 2.

The Dutch Team will practice and play six exhibition games at the Spring Training-site of the San Francisco Giants. The team is compiled of 28 players, including 16 players who were named to the preliminary 28-man WBC-roster on January 17. These players are David Bergman, Yurendell de Caster, Rob Cordemans, Bayron Cornelisse, Berry van Driel, Jonatan Isenia, Spencer Kieboom, Diegomar Markwell, Loek van Mil, Randolph Oduber, Kalian Sams, Curt Smith, Tom Stuifbergen, Hainley Statia, Nick Urbanus and Orlando Yntema.

These 16 players will be joined by catcher Dashenko Ricardo (who replaced the injured Shawn Zarraga on the roster) and eleven players who were added to the team for the training camp. These eleven players are Danny Arribas, Jonathan Balentina, Leon Boyd, Michael Duursma, Wendell Floranus, Kevin Heijstek, Dwayne Kemp, Phildrick Llewellyn, Mark Pawelek, Danny Rombley and Sharlon Schoop.

Professionals Wladimir Balentien, Roger Bernadina, Xander Bogaerts, Kenley Jansen, Andruw Jones, Jair Jurrjens, Shairon Martis, Jurickson Profar, Jonathan Schoop, Andrelton Simmons and Juan Carlos Sulbaran (who were also named to the preliminary roster on January 17) first have to report to the Spring Training-camp of their respective Major League-organization. They will join the Dutch Team on February 25 in Taiwan.

The final 28-man roster for the World Baseball Classic has to be named on February 20.

In the coming days, the Dutch Team will play six exhibition games:
On Tuesday, February 12 vs. GateWay Community College
On Wednesday, February 13 vs. Chandler-Gilbert Community College
On Thursday, February 14 vs. Paradise Valley Community College
On Saturday, February 16, Monday, February 18 and Tuesday, February 19 vs. China
