Kinheim, Pioniers finally open their season
HAARLEM / THE HAGUE / ROTTERDAM / BUSSUM (Neth.) - After a cancellation by fog on Thursday and a cancellation by rain on Friday, Corendon Kinheim and Vaessen Pioniers finally opened their new season on Saturday. Reigning champion Kinheim trailed 9-6 in the sixth inning, but then turned the game around and defeated Pioniers, 16-9. ADO Lakers surprised with a 3-1 win vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates, which had opened with a big win on Thursday. DOOR Neptunus again won big vs. Mampaey The Hawks, 16-5, while UVV won its second game against Mr. Cocker HCAW, 4-3.

Corendon Kinheim vs. Vaessen Pioniers
At Haarlem, Corendon Kinheim trailed 9-6, but then scored 10 runs in three innings to win 16-9 on 16 basehits, including three by René Cremer, Mervin Gario and Roy Seltenrijch. Pioniers collected 14 hits, including three by Vince Rooi and Mark-Jan Moorman.

Trailing 1-0, Kinheim scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by a 3-run triple by Quintin De Cuba. After two scoreless innings, both teams scored once on the fourth at bat. In the fifth, Pioniers added two runs on a single by Rooi and sac-fly by Dè Flanegin. A homerun by Remco Draijer in the bottom of the fifth made it a 6-4 score.

Trailing 6-4 and after a pitching change, Pioniers rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth inning to take 9-6 lead. With one out and the bases loaded, a single by Vince Rooi and sac-fly by Phil Ortez tied the score, then a single by Mark-Jan Moorman gave Pioniers the lead. After Pim Walsma was brought in as new pitcher, a single by Dè Flanegin and sac-fly by Kevin Dirksen then made it 9-6.

But in the home of the sixth, Kinheim reacted with a 5-run rally of its own, which began with back-to-back doubles by Ramiro Balentina and Jeffrey Arends. Later in the inning, after a pitching change, an error, 2-run single by Draijer and a single by Cremer made it 11-9 in Kinheim's favor.

After adding a run in the seventh, Kinheim scored four more runs in the eighth.

ADO Lakers vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates
At The Hague, ADO Lakers surprised with a 3-1 victory against L&D Amsterdam Pirates.

The Amsterdam-squad collected only five basehits off of two pitchers and trailed twice in the game. ADO Lakers took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, which was erased by Pirates in the sixth at bat. But in the eighth, ADO Lakers scored twice and this time held onto the lead.

Kevin Heijstek made his debut in a Pirate-uniform and went the distance. The righthander threw on rookie catcher Milan Post, as regular catcher Bas Nooij didn't get into action today. In the first inning, this battery saw ADO Lakers open the score. Nurison Leonora led off with a triple and scored on a following grounder by Tim Schaareman.

Heijstek then held the home team scoreless in the next six innings, while Pirates came alongside in the sixth. Amsterdam left the bases loaded in the third inning, but scored the tying run in the sixth at bat. Jesse Aussems led off with a bunt-single and moved on a grounder, but was then forced out on a grounder by Wesley Connor. After Connor advanced on a wild pitch, Bas de Jong walked, then an error on a grounder by Kenny Berkenbosch made it 1-1.

ADO Lakers re-took the lead in the eighth. Quensley Bazoer led off with a single and moved on a sac-bunt by Edison Bito and a grounder. A double by Leonoara then made it 2-1 and a wilde pitch enabled him to score the next run moments later to make it 3-1.

DOOR Neptunus vs. Mampay The Hawks
At Rotterdam, DOOR Neptunus also won big its second game against Mampaey The Hawks, 16-5, on thirteen basehits, including the second homer in in two games by Rudy Van Heydoorn.

Initially, The Hawks took an 1-0 lead in the first inning off of starter Orlando Yntema. With one out, Urving Kemp and Erwin Bonis singled and moved on a sac-bunt by Steven Wharwood. A wild pitch then enabled Kemp to give The Hawks its first lead in the big league.

In the third inning, Neptunus erased the deficit with a 9-run rally, highlighted by a 3-run triple by Benjamin Dille.

Trailing, 10-1, The Hawks rallied for four runs in the fourth inning, but Neptunus added four runs of its own in the home half of the fourth. The game ended because of the 10-run difference mercy rule in the seventh inning when Rudy Van Heydoorn hit a 2-run, walk-off homerun.
