CINCINNATI, Ohio (USA) -
The Cincinnati Reds today have sent Dutch outfielder Roger Bernadina to the Louisville Bats, its Triple-A team.
The move was made two days after the Reds designated Bernadina for assignment to make room on the 25-man Major League-roster for infielder/outfielder Skip Schumaker.
The latter was put on the disabled list during Spring Training on March 21 with a dislocated left shoulder, but today was activated again.
Bernadina made the big league-roster during Spring Training.
Bernadina batted .143 (4-for-28) in 23 games so far and was 1-for-11 as a pinch-hitter.
When a player is 'designated for assignment', a club has several options.
He can be put back on the roster within 10 days after the assignment, but a player can also be sent to the minor league, can be traded or even can be released.
