Final Roster Dutch Baseball Team for EC announced
OSTRAVA (Czech Republic) -
Manager Steve Janssen has announced his 24-man roster for the European Championship, which opens on Friday in Regensburg (Germany) and Ostrava (Czech Republic).
The roster includes nine active professional players.
The Netherlands Baseball Team will play its games in Group B in Ostrava and meets Croatia in the first game on Friday-afternoon.
Before the team left for France to participate in the Yoshida Challenge, a preliminary 27-man roster was annnounced, including eleven active professional players.
From that roster, outfielder Roger Bernadina had to be scrubbed, as he was added to the 40-man Major League-roster of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Four other professionals were not with the team in France due to commitments with their teams in the minor leagues.
Shortly before the start of the event in France, pitcher Kevin Kelly was added to the squad.
Pitcher Juan Carlos Sulbaran, who was not with the team in France, is not on the roster for the European Championship.
Also not included are infielder Kevin Moesquit and outfielder Quintin De Cuba.
On Thursday-afternoon, Janssen conducted a final practice session with the Orange squad.
After completion, he announced the roster for the Championship, which begins on Friday-morning at 11 AM.
It marks the first European Championship, which is being held in two different countries.

Gianison Boekhoudt (DOOR Neptunus), Dashenko Ricardo (Corendon Kinheim) and Shawn Zarraga (Double-A/Triple-A, Milwaukee Brewers, USA).
Yurendell de Caster (Broncos de Reynosa, Mexico), Michael Duursma (L&D Amsterdam Pirates), Sharlon Schoop (Double-A, Baltimore Orioles, USA), Curt Smith (Double-A, St. Louis Cardinals, USA), Hainley Statia (Triple-A/Double-A, Milwaukee Brewers, USA) and Nick Urbanus (Rookie League/Single-A, Texas Rangers, USA).
