Neptunus completes sweep vs. Pioniers
Nederlands
ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - Curaçao Neptunus won 5-2 on Sunday (May 10) to complete its 3-game sweep against Vaessen Pioniers.

Neptunus collected 12 basehits, including three by Shaldimar Daantji.

(May 10)

The first six innings of today's game remained scoreless. Neptunus-starter Orlando Yntema gave up four hits in these at bats, while Pioniers-starter Elton Koeiman gave up six. Three of the hits Koeiman gave up were registered in the second inning. Neptunus then got the bases loaded with two outs after singles by Shurman Marlin, Adrian Anthony and Shaldimar Daantji, but they all were left behind.

Pioniers opened the score with two runs in the top of the seventh inning. With one out, Quintin De Cuba walked, stole second base and scored on a double by Kevin Dirksen. The latter then moved on a single by Kevin Weijgertse, who himself advanced to second base on a sac-bunt by Max Draijer. That brought in new pitcher Kevin Kelly, who took over for Yntema. Kelly gave up a single to Daniel Fernandes that gave Pioniers a 2-0 lead.

Neptunus answered with two runs in its seventh at bat to tie the score. Adrian Anthony led off with a single, then pinch-hitter Rien Vernooij also singled with one out. The bases got loaded when Gyenuar Lopez accounted for the next single and that brought in Reggie Bomberg as reliever for Koeiman. Lopez was then forced out on a grounder by Benjamin Dille, but that also scored Anthony and led to a new pitching change. Sedley Karel took over and he was greeted with an RBI-single by Raily Legito that made it a 2-2 score.

Neptunus then decided the game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Dwayne Kemp led off with a walk, then Adrian Anthony walked with one out. Hereafter, closer Bayron Cornelisse took over for Karel, but began with a wild pitch that moved the runners to second and third base. Shaldimar Daantji then followed with a single that gave Neptunus a 3-2 lead. After Daantji had stolen second base, pinch-hitter Urving Kemp delivered a 2-run single that made it 5-2.

Closer Loek van Mil pitched the ninth inning for Neptunus, retired the side and earned his second save of the season.
