After the first two innings, which remained scoreles, were played, the game was halted due to the bright sun during sunset.
On a cloudless and sunny day, the sunset might be of great influence in a night game at HCAW, as the game can be delayed from a half hour to more than an hour.
It is especially of influence in a close game, as the ruling is that no inning can be started after the curfew of 10:30 PM has been reached.
Tonight's delay lasted 33 minutes.
When the game resumed, Amsterdam opened the score in the third inning off of HCAW's starter Maickel Rietel, who of course also had to wait to return to the mound.
With two outs, Michael Duursma reached on an error and scored on a following single by Nick Urbanus.
The next run was added in the fourh when Jesse Aussems singled with two outs and went on to score on an error.
Amsterdam then took more distance, by scoring three runs in the fifth.
Roelie Henrique led off with a walk and Michael Duursma singled.
With one out, an error was made on a grounder by Kenny Berkenbosch, which brought in Henrique.
A single by Remco Draijer then accounted for the next run and a pitching change.
Steven van Groningen took over for starter Rietel, but began with a wild pitch that gave Amsterdam another run.
In the seventh inning, off of new pitcher Tony Kreisel, Amsterdam lifted the lead to 7-0 thanks to grounders by Bas Nooij and Jesse Aussems.
HCAW scored its lone run in the seventh run off of Rob Cordemans, who dominated and struckout twelve batters.
In the first five innings, the veteran righthander gave up only one basehit, which was a lead-off triple by Raoell Kortstam in the third, but he was eliminated trying to score the tying run on a grounder.
In the sixth, Cordemans gave up two singles, but also was supported by a double play.
In the seventh, Jarreau Martina and Rowan van Hoek hit back-to-back doubles to bring in HCAW's lone run, but Cordemans also struckout three batters in this inning.
Tom de Blok finished the game for Pirates in the eighth and struckout the side.
