SAN DIEGO/OAKLAND, California (USA) - Jurickson Profar has been traded by Oakland Athletics to San Diego Padres on Monday-afternoon (December 2). In exchange for the infielder, the A's received catcher Austin Allen and a player to be named later.

After last season, the 26-year old Curaçao-born Profar was traded to Oakland by Texas Rangers. This year, he played in 139 games for Oakland, hitting .218 with 20 homeruns and 67 runs batted in.

The switch-hitting Profar can become a Free Agent after next season. This season, the infielder is eligible for salary arbitration.

Profar will be reunited with Jayce Tingler, who recently was named as the new Manager of San Diego Padres, which this season celebrated its 50th anniversary. While Profar played for Texas, Tingler was a member of the coaching-staff.

San Diego needed a second baseman in an infield with Eric Hosmer at first base, Fernando Tatis Jr. as short stop and Manny Machado at third base. Machado joined the Padres after last season as a Free Agent. Profar is a serious candidate to become the starting second baseman for San Diego.

Profar made his Major League-debut in 2012 with Texas, playing in nine games and hitting a homerun in his first ML-at bat. After hitting .234 with six homeruns in 85 games in 2013, Profar missed both the 2014 and 2015 season due to an inury. He returned in 2016, hitting .239 in 90 games.

His best season was in 2018 when he batted .254 with 20 homeruns, 35 doubles, 77 runs batted in and 54 walks in 146 games. On December 21, 2018, Profar was part of a 3-team trade which included Texas, Oakland and Tampa Bay Rays.

Profar plays professionally since 2010.

In 2013 and 2017, Profar played for the Netherlands National Team during the World Baseball Classic.
