For the first time, an All Star Team has been chosen from all players in the Major League (National and American League combined). The voting for this All-MLB Team was done by both fans and a panel of experts, who both accounted for fifty percent of the voting. The nominees for each postion were selected by merit. The results of the voting was announced on Tuesday when the players were named for a First Team and a Second Team.

While there was one player selected for each postion (and of course three outfielders), five starting pitchers were named for each team and (only) two relievers.

The Aruban-born Xander Bogaerts was named the best short stop in the Major League and earned a spot in the First Team. This season, the 27-year old Bogaerts batted .309 for Boston Red Sox with 85 extra-basehits, including 33 homeruns. He batted in 117 runs, scored 110 and played in 155 games in his seventh season with Boston where he made his Major League-debut in 2013. He also played in his second All Star Game this year and won his third Silver Slugger as the best hitting short stop in the American League. With his .309 batting average, Bogaerts was the fourth best hitter of Boston this season.

Bogaerts was one of six players from the American League to be named to the First Team. Sixteen players were chosen to both the First and Second Team.

Also chosen for the First All-MLB Team were:
Catcher J.T. Realmuto (Philadelphia Phillies), 1st baseman Pete Alonso (New York Mets), 2nd baseman DJ LeMahieu (New York Yankees), 3rd baseman Anthony Rendon (Washington Nationals), outfielders Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels), Cody Bellinger (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Christian Yelich (Milwaukee Brewers), designated hitter Nelson Cruz (Minnesota Twins), starting pitchers Gerrit Cole (Houston Astros), Justin Verlander (Houston Astros), Jacob deGrom (New York Mets), Max Scherzer (Washington Nationals) and Stephen Strasburg (Washington Nationals) and relievers Kirby Yates (San Diego Padres) and Josh Hader (Milwaukee Brewers).

Chosen for the Second All-MLB Team were:
