,,As it looks right now, Kalian will be available for the Holland Series'', Finnegan said. Kalian Sams returned home at the end of last week to prepare with the Netherlands National Team for the upcoming European Championship next month in Germany.

This season, the 32-year old Sams initially played for High Point Rockers, which made its debut in the independent Atlantic League. He played in 20 games for the new club, hitting only .203 (13-for-64) with three doubles and one homerun. He scored six runs and batted in nine, but also struckout 21 times. On July 7, he was released.

Six days later, he was acquired by Sussex County Miners, the reigning champion of the independent Canadian-American Association (Can-Am League). Since then, Sams played in 24 games for Sussex County, hitting .278 (25-for-90) with ten doubles, two triples and one homerun. He scored 19 runs and batted in 16. At the moment, Sussex County is in first place of the Can-Am League with a 51-30 record.

Sams signed his first professional contract with Seattle Mariners in 2006. He made his professional debut in 2007 and since then played in Rookie League and Single-A through 2011. After he promoted to Double-A in 2012, Sams was released before the start of the 2013 season, but signed with the San Diego Padres. For this organization, the outfielder played in Double-A and Triple-A. In July 2013, Sams was released again and he went on to play in the independent Atlantic League, but three weeks later, he signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers, who assigned him to its Double-A team. After the season, Sams became a Free Agent.

Since 2014, Sams has played in Independent Leagues. First for Camden Riversharks in 2013-2014 in the Atlantic League, then four seasons (2015-2018) for Les Capitales de Quebec in the Canadian-American Association (CanAm League). Sams also played in Mexico and Taiwan.

Before turning professional, Sams played in the Dutch big league for ADO in 2004-2006. In 2013 and 2014, Sams played for Neptunus in the Holland Series. He made his regular season-return in 2015, playing in five games for Kinheim. Since 2017, Sams is eligible to play for L&D Amsterdam Pirates. Before leaving to start his professional season, Sams played for Pirates in 2017 (five games) and 2018 (three games) in the Dutch big league. This year, Sams played for Pirates in its opening-game on April 4. Sams also played for Pirates in the 2017 and 2018 Holland Series.
