The second game between HCAW and Hoofddorp Pioniers remained scoreless in the first three innings.
In those three at bats, Pioniers reached based only twice off of starter Dennis Burgersdijk.
The righthander hit lead-off hitter Mark Smit in the first inning, but he was eliminated in a double play.
In the second inning, with two outs, Burgersdijk also hit Joey Eeman with a pitch, but he stranded on first base.
Pioniers-starter Lars Huijer did even better in the first three innings, as the righthander retired nine batters in a row, four of them with a strikeout.
In the fourth inning, both teams got into scoring position and got the bases loaded, but it was HCAW that scored.
Pioniers got three runners with one out in the top of the fourth.
Max Draijer walked and Victor Draijer doubled.
With first base open, a force play was created by walking Tyler Boersma intentionally.
The force play-grounder indeed followed, as next batter Joey Eeman grounded into an inning-ending double play.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Huijer gave up two runs to HCAW and he only could blame himself for that.
Jeandro Tromp led off with a single and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Bob van der Meer.
The bases got loaded when Huijer walked Linoy Croes and an error was made on a force play-grounder by Rodney Daal.
The first run was scored when Huijer uncorked a wild pitch.
Hereafter, the bases were re-loaded again when Kevin Dirksen also walked.
Huijer then struckout Arthur Bonevacia, but the third strike ended in another wild pitch that enabled Croes to score the second run.
It also ended in a strikeout for Bonevacia, as first base was occupied.
Huijer closed with another strikeout, but HCAW led 2-0.
Burgersdijk retired the side in the fifth, but then gave up the first Pioniers-run in the sixth.
Mark Smit led off with a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Raul Jacobs and a single by Max Draijer, then scored when Victor Draijer also singled.
Burgersdijk recovered and got three consecutive outs again in the seventh.
Pioniers then struck with a 4-run rally in the eighth.
Burgersdijk got two baserunners, as he walked Mark Smit, then hit Raul Jacobs with a pitch.
That marked the end for Burgersdijk, who was replaced by Bobbie Gnade.
Pioniers then erased the 2-1 deficit, as Max Draijer delivered a runscoring single that tied the score.
On the throw, Jacobs advanced to third base, then scored the go-ahead run on a following grounder by Victor Draijer.
With two outs, an infield-hit by Joey Eeman was followed by a throwing error, which gave Pioniers its third run in the at bat.
Eeman, who had advanced to second base, then scored the next run on a pinch-hit single by Reangelo Willems.
When Gnade walked next batter Nolan Beugeling, another pitching change was made, as Jasper Elfrink took over.
He got an inning-ending grounder, but Pioniers now led 5-2.
Pioniers added another run in the ninth off of Elfrink.
Mark Smit led off with a single and later scored on a 2-out single by Victor Draijer to make it a 6-2 score.
HCAW was held scoreless after the fourth inning.
In the fifth, Lars Huijer retired the side, then his successor Lars Broersen did the same in the sixth and seventh.
With one out in the eighth, the righthander gave up a single to Raibiëntly Mercalina, who struckout five times in his debut last Thursday.
He also struckout in his first at bat today, but in the eighth, he recorded his first big league-basehit and advanced to second base on a following error.
Moments later, he was eliminated in a double play that followed on a line drive by Jeandro Tromp.
The last player who struckout five times in one game was Kevin Windster Adelina (Quick Amersfoort) on June 24, 2018.
Angelo Wicklert threw the ninth inning for Pioniers.
He got two baserunners, but they were left behind.
