Starting Pitchers coming series; Final 2020 chance Rob Cordemans for 200th win
Nederlands
AMSTERDAM (Neth.) -
Most probable starting pitchers for the upcoming 3-game series have been announced.
Of course, as always, starting assignments can change on game-days.
On Thursday-evening, veteran righthander Rob Cordemans will make his final start of the regular season for L&D Amsterdam Pirates.
The team then opens its 3-games series against Silicon Storks at home in Amsterdam.
For Cordemans, this series will be the final one in which he can win his 200th regular season-game in this abbreviated season.
Theoretically, he has three chances to do so.
The first is by throwing five innings in a win on Thursday and then of course leaving the mound with a lead and with his team holding onto it in the remainder of the game.
Two other (very minor) chances will come in the weekend in case he pitches in relief and becomes the pitcher-of-record in a specific game.
When Cordemans does not record his 200th win, he had to wait until next season to reach the mark.
Of course, after this weekend, Cordemans will make more appearances for Pirates in the upcoming weeks, but these won't count in his career-totals, as they will be done in the post-season.
In his previous start last Thursday, Cordemans threw three innings to reach the 2.000 innings pitched mark (he now has 2.001).
The record of innings pitched is 2.282 and is held by Bart Volkerijk.
A week earlier, Cordemans broke another old Volkerijk-record when he appeared in his 334th game as a pitcher.
The old record was 333.
When Cordemans wins his 200th career victory to become the first pitcher in history to reach this mark.
Besides that, he can become the first pitcher with 200 wins, 2.000 strikeouts and 2.000 innings pitched.
In other news...
When Hoofddorp Pioniers takes the field on Thurday-evening, it will be the team's twelfth game in 19 days since August 15, including the halted game of last Saturday against Quick Amersfoort.
When everything goes according to plan, Hoofddorp Pioniers can finally play a home-game on the main-field of its home-site in Hoofddorp this coming weekend.
That will be Saturday's game against Curaçao Neptunus.
So far this season, Pioniers played its home-games in the weekend at Field #2 of its complex.
During the week, the team played 'home-games' at the sites of RCH-Pinguïns (Heemstede), Amsterdam Pirates (Amsterdam), Onze Gezellen (Haarlem) and Quick Amersfoort (Amersfoort).
The team also had a home-game scheduled at the site of DSS/Kinheim (Haarlem), but that rained out.
Veteran righthander Al Morales Gomes will make his first start of the season for DSS/Kinheim.
The 42-year old Morales is scheduled to start Game 2 against Quick Amersfoort on Saturday.
So far, he pitched in relief in four games.
On Thursday (September 3), it was announced that Curaçao Neptunus switched its starters for Game 2 and 3.
Orlando Yntema now starts on Sunday and Kaj Timmermans on Saturday.
