 Final four make-up games cancelled; Holland Series opens in Rotterdam

There will be no baseball this week, as the remaining four make-up games from the Top-4 Pool and Bottom-4 Pool have been cancelled, as was confirmed on Monday (October 5).
The next baseball-game will be played coming Saturday (October 10), when the best-of-seven Holland Series opens.
On Monday, it was announced that the Championship Final will open in Rotterdam, although L&D Amsterdam Pirates finished in first place in the Top-4 Pool.
As reported, last Thursday, L&D Amsterdam Pirates, Curaçao Neptunus and HCAW discussed the remainder of the season with the KNBSB.
At that moment, Neptunus had qualified for the Holland Series, while the second finalist would be decided in the final 3-game series between Pirates and HCAW.
It was reported on Saturday that it was agreed upon that when the second finalist would be determined, the remaining make-up games (scheduled for this week) were not to be played.
This to secure the Holland Series could open on October 10 and also to eliminate unnecessary traveling after stricter measures were announced earlier last week against the spread of the coronavirus.
With that, the two scheduled make-up games between Amsterdam Pirates and Neptunus (Tuesday in Rotterdam, Thursday in Amsterdam) were cancelled when Pirates reached the Holland Series on Saturday.
Also, the remainder of the halted game between Neptunus and HCAW, which never had been re-scheduled, will not be played.
That game was halted by rain in the top of the fourth inning on Tuesday, September 29 with HCAW leading 1-0.
The remainder was re-scheduled for the next day, but HCAW then filed a complaint against the re-scheduling, stating it would create an overload for its players.
Although Sunday's final game of the 3-game series between Pirates and HCAW also had become unnecessary, it was agreed that this game would be played also when Pirates would have qualified for the Final.
On Sunday, Pirates completed a 3-game sweep against HCAW by winning 11-4 and moved into first place in the Top-4 Pool, two points ahead of Neptunus.
According to the league-rules, the team that would end up in first place in this Pool would have home-advantage in the Holland Series.
Although Amsterdam Pirates finished in first place, the ranking for the home-advantage for the Holland Series was decided otherwise, as it was determined that the Top-4 Pool could not be completed.
But that is because the remaining make-up games were cancelled.
Instead, it was reported that the combined head-to-head results of the three regular season-games plus the lone Top-4 game played between Pirates and Neptunus were used.
Neptunus won three of those games and so, it got home-advantage in the upcoming Holland Series.
When at least the halted Neptunus vs. HCAW game would have been completed (this week), both finalists would have played its entire 3-games series against both HCAW and Hoofddorp Pioniers.
And only the two Pirates vs. Neptunus games would have been left over.
That would have at least created a standings with both Pirates and Neptunus having played equal games against the same opponents.
Besides the three make-up games in the Top-4 Pool, it also became clear that the make-up game between Silicon Storks and Twins Oosterhout in the Bottom-4 Pool will not be re-scheduled.
The game rained out last Saturday after it also had rained out the week before.

On Tuesday, September 29, game halted at 8:25 PM in top 4th inning with one out, no baserunners and HCAW leading 1-0 due to rain.
Game then definitively halted at 8:40 PM, due to field-conditions and ongoing rain; Remainder then scheduled to be played on Wednesday, September 30.
The remainder of this game was scrubbed in the afternoon of Wednesday, September 30, after HCAW filed a complaint against the re-scheduling.
No new date was announced thereafter to play the remainder.
