When tonight's game went underway, it was 30,1 degrees Celsius (86,2 F) with a clear blue sky.
It was the lone game tonight and the first this season that started with a temperature aboven 30 degrees.
With that, a sun-delay was expected and it came in the fourth inning.
In the first four innings, DSS/Kinheim came into scoring position in three of these at bats off of starter Luuk ter Beek.
But the team was unable to score.
In the first inning, Jochem Koedijk doubled with one out, but stranded on second base.
In the third, Nick Hofer reached on an error with one out and moved to third base on a 2-out single by Koedijk.
The inning ended when the latter was forced out.
And in the fourth, Aidan Finnegan (fielder's choice) advanced to second base on a 2-out single by Donny Kuijper, but they also were left behind.
In its first three innings off of DSS/Kinheim-starter Jelle Bing, HCAW got only one runner in scoring position.
That was done in the third when Bob van der Meer's grounder ended in a 2-base error.
In the bottom of the fourth, with one out, HCAW got two baserunners.
Leandro Anasagasti singled and next batter Arthur Bonevacia walked.
After the walk was completed, Home Plate Umpire Winfried Berkvens signaled that the game was to be interrupted for the bright sun.
On clear evenings, the sunset can obstruct the view of the batter, catcher and umpire and mostly leads to a delay.
That can vary from a few minutes to a very long time.
The longest sun-delay recorded was one hour and 40 minutes.
When the game was halted, DSS/Kinheim Head Coach Michael Crouwel had a brief discussion with the umpires.
Probably to ask why the delay was done during an inning, instead of between completed at bats.
After 25 minutes, the game resumed and both runners advanced on a wild pitch.
Next batter Kevin Dirksen grounded to third base, a throw to the plate followed, but Anasagasti scored.
Hereafter, a force out and a flyout ended the at bat.
DSS/Kinheim got another runner on third base in the top of the sixth.
Lead-off hitter Jeldwin Orman was hit by a pitch, then stole second base with one out and and advanced on a grounder, but stranded on third base.
In the bottom of the sixth, HCAW added two runs.
With one out, Leandro Anasagasti and Arthur Bonevacia both walked.
A pitching change followed, as Moreno Vork took over for Jelle Bing.
He gave up runscoring singles to Kevin Dirksen and Berend Ruben, which led to another pitching change.
Rick Timmermans took over, began with a strikeout and got an inning-ending flyout.
In the remainder of the game, no runs were added, despite the fact that both teams got several baserunners.
In the top of seventh, Donny Kuijper led off with a single for DSS/Kinheim.
After the next batter flied out, Gio de Graauw took over from Ter Beek.
He had a successful begin, as he pick-off Koen Halderman, who had entered as pinch-runner for Kuijper.
A grounder ended the at bat.
In the eighth, Thomas Bos led off with a single.
He was forced out on a grounder by Jochem Koedijk, who later stranded on second base.
HCAW got only one runner in scoring position in it final at bats.
In the seventh, the team saw a runner being forced out, then Timmermans closed with a strikeout.
And in the eighth, Kevin Dirksen and Berend Ruben walked with one out.
After a flyout, Timmermans again closed with a strikeout.
In the top of the ninth, Kevin Nieveld led off with a walk for DSS/Kinheim, then Aidan Finnegan reached on an infield-hit.
But hereafter, De Graauw struckout the next three batters to close the game and earn his second save of the season.
