ROTTERDAM (Neth.) -
The opening game of the best-of-seven Holland Series between defending champion L&D Amsterdam Pirates and Curaçao Neptunus, to be played on Saturday-afternoon (October 10) in Rotterdam, was cancelled in the morning due to rain and field-conditions.
It had rained throughout the night, making the field unplayable.
The game has been re-scheduled for coming Monday-evening in Rotterdam.
The Championship Final will now open on Sunday (October 11) in Amsterdam, weather permitting.
On Saturday, it rained almost the entire day in Amsterdam with sometimes steady showers.
More rain is expected on Sunday.
Like last season, L&D Amsterdam Pirates and Curaçao Neptunus have qualified again for the Holland Series
This season marks the fifth consecutive year that the two teams will face each other in the Championship Final.
Last year, Neptunus won the first three games of the best-of-seven.
Thereafter, Amsterdam Pirates became the first team in history to win the next four games and capture the Championship Title.
Veterans Rob Cordemans and Diegomar Markwell were announced as Game 1 starters for respectively Amsterdam Pirates and Neptunus.
It is expected that they now will be the starters in Sunday's game.
When the first two games can be played on Sunday and Monday, the next game is scheduled for coming Thursday-evening in Rotterdam.
Coming weekend, Games 4 (Amsterdam, Saturday) and 5 (Rotterdam, Sunday) are scheduled.
When needed, Games 6 and 7 then will follow a week later.
All games will be played without spectators, as that is prohibited at the moment due to the stricter corona-measures.
Coming Tuesday, a press conference is planned by the Dutch Government and it is expected that more stricter measures will be announced then against the spread of the virus.
