Nederlands

AMERSFOORT (Neth.) - Twins Oosterhout trailed, then led, but in the end won only 10-9 against Quick Amersfoort in a tumultuous game on Sunday (October 13), which was decided on a balk.

On Thursday-evening, Quick Amersfoort trailed, but won 9-7 thanks to a ninth inning rally.

On Saturday, Quick Amersfoort decided the second game late again and won 7-5.

Today, Twins Oosterhout trailed 5-2 after two innings, then led 9-5 halfway the eighth inning. Quick Amersfoort then came alongside with a 4-run rally in the bottom of the eighth. In the top of the ninth, Twins scored what would be the decisive run when a balk was called. That led to two ejections, a bench-clearing and two more ejections. Shortly thereafter, when the game resumed, there was a fifth ejection.

Twins was outhit 11-8 by Quick. Taylor Clemensia and Amar van Zwieten both had two basehits for Quick. Clemensia batted in three runs. Jason Halman got two basehits and three RBI's for Twins, while Junior Martina scored three runs and hit a homerun.

(September 13)

In the long (more than 3½ hours) game, Twins Oosterhout opened the score with two runs in the top of the first inning off of Quick-starter Jhan Rifaela. With one out, the lefthander got the bases loaded when he gave up a single to Mick Vos and walked Junior Martina and Shurman Marlin. An infield-fly accounted for the seocnd out, but thereafter, Jason Halman singled in two runs.

Quick Amersfoort answered with a 4-run rally in the bottom of the first inning off of starter Pastor Enrique Martínez Chavez. The righthander walked lead-off hitter Joran Berkhout, who advanced to third base on a wild pitch, then another one with one out. Martínez then also walked Tijmen Takke. With two outs, Quick came alongside thanks to a 2-run double by Taylor Clemensia. Emeron Lourens followed with a single and then it was Alberto Enrique Ostos, who delivered a 2-run double to put Quick ahead 4-2.

Quick added another run in the second at bat and again scored with two outs. Rachid Engelhardt then doubled, advanced on a passed ball and scored on a single by Tijmen Takke.

After having scored five runs in the first two innings, Quick was held scoreless in the next five at bats. In the meantime, Twins not only came alongside, but took over the lead.

Jhan Rifaela retired the side in the top of the second inning, he gave up the third Twins-run in the third. With one out, Junior Martina hit the ball over the leftfield-fence for a homerun, which narrowed the deficit to 5-3.

Twins came back run by run in the following innings. In the fourth, another run was added. Diamond Silberie led off with a walk and moved on a sacrifice bunt by Brian Biezen and a grounder by Rayshelon Carolina. With two outs, Twins got the bases loaded when Tyriq Kemp and Mick Vos also walked. Moments later, Silberie scored on a wild pitch. Twins left two runners behind, as Rifaela closed with a strikeout.

Twins got another big scoring opportunity in the top of the fifth, but again scored only once. This tying run also was scored with two outs. Shurman Marlin led off with a walk. After Rifaela struckout his fourth batter, the lefthander gave up a double to Jason Halman. With runners on second and third, Gilian Wernet took over the pitching for Quick. He struckout the first batter he faced, but then loaded the bases when Brian Biezen walked. Hereafter, Marlin scored when Wernet also walked Rayshelon Carolina. A grounder ended the at bat, three runners were left behind, but the score was now tied at 5-5.

In the top of the sixth, Twins scored twice to take the lead. Wernet walked lead-off hitter Mick Vos and hit next batter Junior Martina with a pitch. Another pitching change followed, Temesh Lourens relieved Wernet. Lourens got runners on second and third base when his pick-off to second base ended in a throwing error. He then got the bases loaded after walking Shurman Marlin, who received his third free pass in this game. Lourens struckout the next batter, but then hit Jason Halman with a pitch, which moved the three runners and so, Vos scored the go-ahead run. Hereafter, another run was scored when an error was made on a force play-grounder by Diamond Silberie. Again, Twins left three runners behind, as a strikeout and groundout closed the at bat.

After a scoreless seventh inning, Twins scored two more (unearned) runs in the eighth off of new pitcher Jasper Popken. With one out, Jason Halman reached on an error and Diamond Silberie doubled. A run was then scored on a pinch-hit single by Railison Bentura. Silberie scored the second run in this at bat on a sacrifice fly by Rayshelon Carolina. That also led to a double play, as Bentura returned back too late at first base. Leftfielder Ademar Rifaela got the ball in time to first baseman Tijmen Takke to complete the double play, but Silberie had scored and Twins now led 9-5.

As mentioned, Quick was held scoreless from the third through seventh inning. In these five at bats, the team got only two baserunners, who both got into scoring position, but were left behind.

Quick was retired in order by Pastor Enrique Martínez Chavez in the third inning. The righthander then gave up a lead-off double to Amar van Zwieten in the fourth. He stranded on second base, as two flyouts and a strikeout followed.

Martínez retired the side again in the fifth, then was relieved by Koen Postelmans in the bottom of the sixth with Twins leading 7-5. Postelmans also retired the side in the sixth. He then walked lead-off hitter Denzel Brooks, who moved to third on two following grounders, but also was left behind.

Now trailing 9-5, Quick came back in the bottom of the eighth. The team rallied for four runs to come alongside. Postelmans gave up a lead-off double to Ademar Rifaela, who then scored on a single by Taylor Clemensia. While scoring, Rifaela sustained a hamstring-injury. He not only left the game, but will be out for the remainder of the season. Quick added three more runs with two outs. First, Clemensia was forced out on a grounder by Emeron Lourens. The latter advanced on a grounder, then stole third base and scored on a 2-out single by Amar van Zwieten. When next batter Denzel Brooks also singled, Twins made another pitching change. Javier Montero took over, but the Spanish righthander was greeted with a runscoring single by Joran Berkhout. And that made it a 9-8 score. Montero got the bases loaded when he hit next batter Rachid Engelhardt. He then walked Tijmen Takke, which brought in Brooks to score the tying run. With the bases still loaded, the inning ended with a grounder from pinch-hitter Jan-Willem Geerts. He batted for Ademar Rifaela, who is the third powerhitter in the Quick-team that will be sidelined the coming weeks. The others are Roger Bernadina and Bryan Engelhardt.

A tumultuous ninth inning followed.

In the top of the ninth, Jasper Popken gave up a lead-off ground-rule double to Tyriq Kemp and was relieved by Wendell Floranus. He saw Kemp move to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Mick Vos. Moments later, 3B Umpire Richard Wessel called a balk. With that, Kemp was awarded home plate and scored the tenth run for Twins. That not only gave the team a renewed lead, it led to much more. Injured Quick-player Bryan Engelhardt, who also is an Assistant Coach, and Bench Coach Marco Wels argued the call and were ejected by Wessel. Some exchange of words between the two teams followed, which led to a bench-clearing. The order was restored quickly by the umpiring crew, but Head Coaches René de Vries (Quick) and Jeffrey Arends (Twins) were ejected.

With Twins now leading 10-9 and after the ejections of four coaches, the game resumed. But shortly thereafter next batter Junior Martina struckout and argued the strike-zone, then was ejected by Home Plate Umpire Rudsel Schoobaar. Floranus closed with another strikeout, but his team now trailed.

In the bottom of the ninth, Javier Montero retired the side. And that ended the game after three hours and 42 minutes.
