(Story by Marco Stoovelaar) Holland Series Baseball comes to an early end Nederlands NIEUWEGEIN / AMSTERDAM / ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - On Wednesday (October 14), the Royal Netherlands Baseball and Softball Associaton (KNBSB) announced that the baseball- and softball-season has come to a halt. On Tuesday-evening (October 13), during a press conference, the Dutch Government announced stricter measures against the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). These new measures are necessary and needed to be taken to stop the raise of the amount of contaminations and to let it drop drastically. One of the announced measures was that all amateur team-sports age 18 and older will end effective Wednesday, October 14, 10 PM, to reduce traffic movements and contacts. This means that all remaining (make-up) games in all baseball- and softball-competitions have been annulled. This also means that the best-of-seven Holland Series for the National Championship-title between L&D Amsterdam Pirates and Curaçao Neptunus has ended after two games. Defending champion Amsterdam Pirates won these two played games on Sunday and Monday. The opener of the Holland Series rained out on Saturday and was re-scheduled for Monday-evening. On Sunday, Amsterdam Pirates opened with a 3-1 victory. On a cold Monday-evening, Amsterdam Pirates took a 2-0 lead in a thriller by winning Game 2 with a 7-3 score in eleven innings. The game lasted four hours and 28 minutes to set a new Holland Series-record in time played. Game 3 was scheduled to be played on Thursday-evening (October 15) in Rotterdam, followed by Game 4 on Saturday in Amsterdam. When needed, Game 5 would then be played on Sunday in Rotterdam.
