OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) - Twins Oosterhout recorded a convincing 9-1 victory on Saturday (August 15) against Quick Amersfoort.

The opening game of their series was halted in the top of the fifth inning by lightning and rain on Thursday-evening, but today, Twins Oosterhout took an early lead in the first inning and added more runs in following at bats.

After Quick Amersfoort was retired in order in the top of the first inning, Twins rallied for three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Tyriq Kemp led off with a single off of Jan-Willem Geerts, who started his first game of the season after having appeared in relief in five earlier games. Kemp moved on a sacrifice bunt, then scored on a 2-out double by Jason Halman. More basehits followed, as Shurman Marlin connected for a runscoring single, then Ruendrick Piternella followed with an RBI-double to make it a 3-0 score. Next batter Brian Biezen walked, but a flyout then ended the at bat.

Quick got one run back in the top of the second inning when Tijmen Takke homered with one out off of starter Sora Sakashita. The Japanese righthander followed with two strikeouts.

Twins added two runs in its second at bat. Mick Vos opened off with a walk. Hereafter, Jan-Willem Geerts showed his displeasure and was ejected by Home Plate Umpire Winfried Berkvens. Brian van Laar was inserted as new pitcher and on his first delivery, next batter Tyriq Kemp connected well and drilled the ball over the rightfield-fence for his first big league-homerun. With two outs, Jason Halman walked and advanced on a wild pitch, but Van Laar then closed with a strikeout.

Twins scored an unearned run in the third inning. Ruendrick Piternella led off with a single, then advanced to second base on an outfield-error and moved to third base on a single by Brian Biezen. With runners at the corners, Jerzy van Gool was ruled out for batter's interfence, but moments later, Piternella scored on a sacrifice fly by Mick Vos.

In the fourth inning, rookie Stijn Bruins Slot became the fourth pitcher for Quick and completed the game. While giving up ten basehits in the five innings he threw, Bruins Slot gave up only three more additional runs, two of them unearned.

In the fourth, Bruins Slot gave up a 2-out double to Jason Halman, but then closed with a strikeout. But Twins then added another run in the fifth. Ruendrick Piternella again led off with a single, then moved to third base when a throwing error was made on a force play-grounder by Brian Biezen. Piternella scored on an one-out single by Mick Vos to lift the lead to 7-1.

Twins scored its eighth run in the sixth. With one out, pinch-hitter Railison Bentura singled and scored when Jason Halman hit his third double in this game.

After a scoreless seventh inning, Twins scored another run in the eighth. With one out, Shurman Marlin singled, moved on a 2-out single by Brian Biezen, then scored when Jerzy van Gool reached on an error.

Quick only was able to score in the second inning via Takke's homerun. In three of the next four innings, the team got in scoring position off of starting pitcher Sora Sakashita, but failed to score. With one out in the third, Emeron Lourens singled, stole second base and later stranded on third base. After the Japanese righthander retired the side in the fourth, he gave up a lead-off single to Taylor Clemensia in the fifth. He was awarded second base on a balk with one out, but then also was left behind on third base. In the sixth, Quick got runners on second and third base. With one out, Jordy Burger and Rachid Engelhardt both walked. Burger moved to third base when Ademar Rifaela flied out. Engelhardt advanced on a wild pitch with two outs, but a grounder ended the at bat.

Finn Kops threw the next two innings for Twins. Again, Quick got into scoring position. In the seventh, Taylor Clemensia led off with a walk, moved on an one-out single by pinch-hitter Rowan van Hoek and a force play-grounder by Emeron Lourens, but also stranded on third base. In the eighth, Rachid Engelhardt walked with one out and was left behind on second base.

Thomas Steenwijk closed the game for Twins. He walked lead-off hitter Taylor Clemensia, then retired the next three batters to end the game.
