Neptunus again has one big inning to win vs. HCAW
Nederlands

ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - Curaçao Neptunus scored five runs in the sixth inning and went on to win 6-1 against HCAW on Sunday (August 16).

On Saturday, Neptunus led only 2-0 after six innings, then decided the game by scoring twice in both the seventh and ninth inning.

The opening game on Thursday-evening was cancelled due to rain and will be made up on Tuesday-evening.

Neptunus collected eight basehits, including three by Darryl Collins, who scored twice and batted in one run.

HCAW got six basehits with three of them being hit by Linoy Croes.

(August 16)

Neptunus again decided a game with one big inning. Today, the team rallied for five runs in the sixth inning. In the meantime, the Neptunus-pitching held opponent HCAW scoreless.

Orlando Yntema started for Neptunus and never ran into problems in the seven innings he was on the mound. The righthander got only five baserunners with three of them stranding on second base.

With one out in the first inning, Yntema gave up a single to Linoy Croes. He moved into scoring position on a following grounder, but was left behind. With one out in the second at bat, HCAW again got into scoring position. This time, Kevin Dirksen doubled, but Yntema then struckout the next two batters.

Orlando Yntema then retired the side in the next three innings. From the first (after the single by Croes) through sixth inning, Yntema retired 16 of the 17 batters he faced, including the last 13 in a row. With two outs in the sixth, he gave up a single to Linoy Croes. He then stole second base, but was left behind, as the inning ended when third baseman Stijn van der Meer made a diving catch on a line drive from Berend Ruben.

In the seventh, Rodney Daal singled for HCAW with one out, but was forced out on a grounder by Arthur Lugtmeijer, which ended the at bat.

Neptunus got on base frequently off of HCAW-starter Dennis Burgersdijk, but was held scoreless in the first five innings. In these at bats, the team left six runners behind, including three in scoring position.

Neptunus got five baserunners in the first inning, but didn't score. Lead-off hitter Stijn van der Meer walked and with one out, the bases got loaded when Dwayne Kemp singled and Gianison Boekhoudt also walked. Then, two force outs followed. First, Van der Meer was forced out at the plate on a grounder by Dashenko Ricardo. Hereafter, the inning ended when Boekhoudt was forced out at third base on a grounder by Benjamin Dille.

In the second inning, Neptunus left a runner behind on third base. Darryl Collins led off with a single and moved on a sacrifice bunt by Gregory Muller. Burgersdijk followed with a strikeout, then Collins advanced to third base on a wild pitch. But he stranded on third base when short stop Raibiëntly Mercalina caught a line drive from Stijn van der Meer.

In the sixth inning, Neptunus opened the score and rallied for five runs. Gianison Boekhoudt led off with a walk and with one out, Benjamin Dille singled. Moments later, Boekhoudt scored the first run on a double by Darryl Collins. That also led to a pitching change, as Burgersdijk was relieved by Bobbie Gnade. He was greeted with a 2-run double by Gregory Muller. With two outs, Stijn van der Meer walked. A grounder by next batter John Polonius ended in a throwing error, which enabled both Muller and Van der Meer to score to lift the lead to 5-0.

In the top of the eighth inning, Misja Harcksen made his first appearance of the season for Neptunus, as the righthander had been sidelined with an injury. He gave up the lone HCAW-run. Harcksen walked lead-off hitter Pascal Zegwaard, but followed with a strikeout. Next batter Jeandro Tromp delivered a single and when that was followed by an outfield-error, HCAW got runners at the corners. Linoy Croes then delivered a double into deep centerfield. That brought in Zegwaard and Tromp also was waved home. But leftfielder Gregory Muller threw the ball to short stop John Polonius, who then had a strong throw to catcher Dashenko Ricardo. And he tagged out Tromp at the plate. Croes advanced to third base on the throw, but was left behind.

Neptunus added another run in the eighth after being retired in order in the previous inning by reliever Jasper Elfrink. In the eighth, Neptunus faced new pitcher Arij Fransen. He gave up a lead-off single to Darryl Collins, who stole second base, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a 2-out double by Stijn van der Meer.

Kevin Kelly threw the ninth inning for Neptunus. The righthander retired the side to close the game.
