Quick Amersfoort decides game early in win vs. Twins Oosterhout
Nederlands

AMERSFOORT (Neth.) - Quick Amersfoort scored five runs in the first three innings and went on to win 7-3 against Twins Oosterhout on Sunday (August 16) to end a 5-game losing streak.

With the win, Quick recovered from Saturday's loss. In that game, Twins recorded a convincing 9-1 victory.

The series-opener on Thursday-evening was halted by lightning in the top of the fifth inning. Shortly thereafter, the game was halted definitively due to heavy rain. The game will be made up on Tuesday-evening.

Today, Quick scored twice in the first inning and added three more runs in the third at bat. The team then scored two more insurance runs in the eighth.

Quick Amersfoort collected eleven basehits, including four by Rachid Engelhardt, three of them doubles. He also scored two runs and batted in two. Newcomer Ademar Rifaela hit his first homerun.

(August 16)

Quick Amersfoort opened the score with two runs in the bottom of the first inning off of starter Stefan Iannelli. With one out, Ademar Rifaela hit his first big league-homerun, which also was his first basehit in the highest Dutch league. Rifaela, who played professionally through last season, was added to the roster earlier in the week and made his debut last Thursday in the series-opener that was suspended in the fifth inning. Last year, Rifaela hit six homeruns for the Netherlands Baseball Team during the European Championship in Germany. On Thursday, Rifaela struckout and walked in his first two plate appearances. On Saturday, he was 0-for-4 in the next game. After Rifaela had homered, Rachid Engelhardt doubled. Next batter Tijmen Takke walked, which ended in a wild pitch that enabled Engelhardt to advance to third base. His brother Bryan Engelhardt then grounded to first base and Rachid took off to score. A throw to the plate followed, but an error was made and Engelhardt scored.

Twins cut the deficit in half in the top of the second inning. With two outs, Brian Biezen doubled and scored on a single by Diamond Silberie, but that was the lone run for Twins until the ninth inning.

In the bottom of the third inning, Quick rallied for three runs. Ademar Rifaela led off with a walk and scored on a following double by Rachid Engelhardt, his second of the game. He moved to third base on a single by Tijmen Takke and scored on a single by Bryan Engelhardt. The bases got loaded when Taylor Clemensia walked and with one out, the next run was scored on a force play-grounder by Emeron Lourens.

In the three middle innings, both teams remained scoreless despite getting several baserunners.

Twins left a runner behind on first base in the fourth and fifth inning, but got the bases loaded in the sixth off of starter Colin van Laar. Shurman Marlin led off with a walk, then a single by Ruendrick Piternella led to runners on second and third base. Van Laar followed with a strikeout, but then got the bases loaded when he walked Diamond Silberie. Next, Marlin was forced out at the plate on a grounder by Mick Vos and Van Laar closed the inning by striking out Tyriq Kemp.

Quick also got some scoring opportunities. In the bottom of the fourth, with two outs, Rachid Engelhardt singled and Tijmen Takke walked. Pastor Enrique Martínez Chavez then took over the pitching for Twins and got an inning-ending flyout. In the fifth, Martínez gave up a lead-off single to Taylor Clemensia, but a line drive by Jules Cremer then led to a double play. With two outs in the sixth, Ademar Rifaela singled, but he was forced out.

Both teams also didn't score in the seventh, but Twins again got runners at the corners off of new pitcher Wendell Floranus. He gave up a lead-off single to Rayshelon Carolina and walked Shurman Marlin with two outs. As ball-four was a wild pitch, Carolina moved to third base, but Floranus then closed by striking out Ruendrick Piternella. Quick was retired in order in its seventh at bat by Martínez.

After Twins was retired in order in the top of the eighth, Quick added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth off of new picher Raf Cocu. He walked lead-off hitter Jules Cremer, then gave up an infield-hit to Emeron Lourens. The two moved on a sacrifice bunt by Jordy Burger. Denzel Brooks followed with a single. Cremer scored, but Lourens was eliminated at the plate on a throw by leftfielder Brian Biezen. With Brooks on second base, Ademar Rifaela was walked intentionally, but Rachid Engelhardt followed with his third double in the game. And that lifted the lead to 7-1.

In the top of the ninth, Twins managed to score two more runs off of closer Jasper Popken. Tyriq Kemp led off with a single and Rayshelon Carolina walked. With one out, Carolina was forced out on second base on a grounder by Jason Halman. That moved Kemp to third base and he later scored on a wild pitch. After Shurman Marlin had walked, Halman scored on a single by Ruendrick Piternella. With runners on first and second base, then game ended when second baseman Rachid Engelhardt caught a line drive from Brian Biezen.
