Exhibition wins for DSS/Kinheim and Twins Oosterhout
Nederlands

HAARLEM / OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) - DSS/Kinheim recorded a big 15-1 win against Silicon Storks on Saturday (July 18), while Twins Oosterhout got its first exhibition-victory by winning 7-4 against Quick Amersfoort.

The teams will close their exhibition season on Sunday. DSS/Kinheim then will travel to The Hague to play at the site of Storks. Quick Amersfoort will host Twins Oosterhout at home. The regular season opens coming Thursday-evening (July 23).

At Haarlem, DSS/Kinheim opened the score with two runs in the first inning off of starter Twan Naessens. The home-team got the bases loaded quickly when Thomas Bos led off with a double, then both Jochem Koedijk and Aidan Finnegan walked. Two sacrifice flies followed, hit by Tino van Erk and Tommy van de Sanden to bring in two runners.

DSS/Kinheim again got the bases loaded with no outs in the second at bat. This time, Kevin Nieveld led off with a double, Donny Kuijper singled and Nick Hofer walked. But a double play on a line drive by Daan Terstall and flyout followed.

DSS/Kinheim then blow open the game with a 10-run rally on eight basehits in the bottom of the third inning. The first nine batters in the 10-man batting order all reached base safely off of Naessens, who gave up all runs in this at bat. It all began with a lead-off double by Koedijk, followed by a single from Finnegan. Van Erk and Van de Sanden followed with runscoring singles, then the bases got loaded when Koen Halderman walked. Next, a runscoring single by Nieveld and a 2-run double by Kuijper increased the lead to 7-0. The bases got loaded again when Hofer also walked. A throwing error on a comeback force play-grounder by Terstall then accounted for two more runs. With runners on second and third base, the first out was recorded when Bos flied out, but that became a sac-fly, as Hofer scored. With two outs, Finnegan walked. Van Erk then delivered his second runscoring single in the at bat and Van de Sanden added an RBI-double after having his an RBI-single in his first at bat in this inning. With that, the scored was lifted to 12-0, before a flyout ended the long inning, which also was the last thrown by Naessens.

DSS/Kinheim scored three more runs in the fifth inning. Again Van Erk and Van de Sanden were involved in the run-production. With Bos (hit by pitch) and Koedijk (single) on base, Finnegan first hit a runscoring single. A single by Van Erk and a sac-fly by Van de Sanden then brought in the next two runs.

Van Erk was 4-for-4, scored a run and batted in four runs. Van de Sanden was 2-for-3 with a double and two sac-flies, scored a run and also batted in four runs. Koedijk and Finnegan both scored three runs.

Storks collected nine basehits off of four pitchers, but scored only once. Three of them were hit off of starter Glenn Wassink, who threw five innings and struckout seven batters. The righthander retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced.

Storks then scored its lone run in the sixth inning off of new pitcher Moreno Vork. Kelvin Knape led off with a single, then a walk and a single loaded the bases. Steven Henson followed with a sacrifice fly that brought in Knape. With two outs, singles by Luuk Visser and Ibrahim Redan loaded the bases again. Last season, Redan was Vork's teammate at DSS. Three runners were left behind when a grounder ended the at bat.

In the seventh inning, another veteran took the mound for DSS/Kinheim. Last weekend, David Bergman briefly pitched for the team. Today, Al Morales Gomes threw one inning. Morales, who last season was the Pitching Coach of the team and also pitched himself, retired the side. Robyn Clara closed the game for DSS/Kinheim. He gave up two basehits in the ninth, but both baserunners were left behind.

Playing at home, Twins Oosterhout initially trailed against Quick Amersfoort. The visiting team opened the score in the first inning off of Japanese righthander Sora Sakashita.

Moments later, Twins also scored off of lefthanded starter Colin van Laar. After tying the score, the bases got loaded, then Jason Halman delivered a 2-run single to give Twins a 3-1 lead.

Quick Amersfoort later managed to narrow the deficit to 5-4, but Twins added two more runs en route to its first exhibition win.

Sakashita was followed on the mound by Stefan Iannelli, Finn Kops, Pastor Enrique Martínez Chavez and Raf Cocu.
