Quick Amersfoort again comes from behind to win vs. Storks
Nederlands

THE HAGUE (Neth.) - Quick Amersfoort again trailed early, but rallied in the fourth and fifth inning to record a convincing 16-8 win in its second game against Silicon Storks in the Bottom-4 Pool on Saturday (September 19).

On Thursday, Quick Amersfoort faced an early 6-0 deficit, but also came back and won 8-6.

Today, Storks broke an 1-1 tie, scored four runs and led 5-1 after three innings. But Quick then scored five runs in both the fourth and fifth inning and added five more runs later in the game to win with a comfortable score.

Quick Amersfoort, which committed five defensive errors, collected 16 basehits, including three by Rachid Engelhardt and Tijmen Takke. Both also batted in three runs, as did Emeron Lourens. Engelhardt homered and scored four runs.

Except for Alberto Enrique Ostos, all starting players had at least one basehit. Except for Emeron Lourens, eight Quick-starters scored at least once.

Storks recorded 10 basehits, including four by Jurian Hansen, who only missed the homerun to hit for-the-cycle. Kelvin Knape had three hits for the team from The Hague.

(September 19)

Quick Amersfoort got a runner on third base in the first inning, but it was Storks that opened the score and led 5-1 after three innings. Quick then turned around the game from the fourth inning on.

In the top of the first inning, Storks-starter Nick Winkel walked lead-off hitter Joran Berkhout. With two outs, the at bat appeared to come to an end on a grounder by Tijmen Takke, but an error was made. Moments later, Berkhout stole third base, but stranded there, as Winkel closed with a strikeout.

Quick-starter Brian van Laar also got a runner in scoring position in his first inning. The lefthander saw Joel Hernandez reach on an error, but he was caught stealing shortly thereafter. Next batter Jurian Hansen singled and moved on a passed ball, but also was left behind.

Quick also left a runner behind in scoring position in the top of the second inning. Emeron Lourens led off with a walk, advanced on a grounder by Amar van Zwieten, then moved to third base on a 2-out single by Denzel Brooks. A flyout ended the at bat.

Storks then opened the score with an unearned run in the bottom of the second. Brian van der Vlist led off with a walk. With one out, he advanced on a passed ball and a wild pitch. With Van der Vlist on third base, Joost van den Bergh was hit by a pitch, then the two runners advanced on a grounder by Kelvin Knape, which gave Storks an 1-0 lead. Van den Bergh moved to third base on another wild pitch, but Brian van Laar then ended the at bat with a strikeout.

The lead was shortlived, as Quick came alongside in the top of the third inning when Rachid Engelhardt homered with one out.

In the bottom of the third inning, Storks rallied for four runs on two basehits and two errors. Only one run was earned, which was to be the lone earned run Storks scored today. Its seven other runs were all unearned. With one out, Jurian Hansen tripled and scored on a following single by Jurriaan Dijk. With two outs, Brian van der Vlist walked. A passed ball gave Storks runners on second and third base. An error then was made on a grounder by Stephen Henson, which would have been the third out. But now, it enabled Dijk to score. Next, a pick-off attempt by pitcher Brian van Laar then not only was unsuccessful, it led to a double-steal situation in which Van der Vlist scored and Henson advanced to second base. Moments later, Henson also stole third base, then scored the fourth run in the inning when another error was made on a grounder by Joost van den Bergh.

Again, Storks was unable to hold onto the lead, as Quick answered with a 5-run rally in the top of the fourth. Only two basehits were recorded in this at bat, but six batters reached on a free pass. Nick Winkel got the bases loaded when he walked Amar van Zwieten, Alberto Enrique Ostos and Denzel Brooks. A run was then scored when next batter Joran Berkhout was hit by a pitch. With the bases still loaded, Winkel struckout Jordy Burger, but then gave up a runscoring single to Rachid Engelhardt. Winkel followed with another strikeout, this time for Tijmen Takke, but the bases were still loaded. Another run was then scored when Taylor Clemensia walked, which narrowed the deficit to 5-4. That marked the end of Winkel's pitching today. He was relieved by Diornick Sanchez, but he was greeted with a 2-run single by Emeron Lourens and that gave Quick a 6-5 lead. Sanchez then also got the bases loaded when he walked Amar van Zwieten (his second walk in this inning). The three runners were then left behind when a foul pop-fly ended the at bat.

With Quick now leading 6-5, rookie Stijn Bruins Slot took over the pitching. As starter Brian van Laar didn't pitch the required five complete innings, he would not be eligible for the win in today's game. In the bottom of the fourth, Bruins Slot got two runners in scoring position. With one out, he walked Joel Hernandez, then gave up an infield-hit to Jurian Hansen. Hernandez advanced to third base when that was followed by a throwing error. Moments later, Hansen stole second base, but the two runners were left behind.

Quick staged another 5-run rally in the top of the fifth inning. The bases got loaded quickly when Denzel Brooks led off with a walk, then Joran Berkhout singled and Jordy Burger reached on a bunt-single. Brooks was then forced out at the plate on a grounder by Rachid Engelhardt. But hereafter, Tijmen Takke delivered a baseclearing, 3-run triple. He then scored himself on a following double by Taylor Clemensia. That also brought in another pitcher. Leftfielder Jurriaan Dijk took over the pitching from Diornick Sanchez. He got a grounder from Emeron Lourens, but that was misplayed and enabled Clemensia to score the fifth run and raise the lead to 11-5. A double play ended the at bat.

Jurriaan Dijk retired the side in the sixth, but then gave up another run in the seventh. Rachid Engelhardt led off with a walk, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a 2-out single by Emeron Lourens.

Quick scored two more runs in the top of the eighth. With two outs, Joran Berkhout was hit by a pitch and scored on a triple by Jordy Burger, who went on to score himself on a following single by Rachid Engelhardt.

After getting two baserunners in the fourth inning, Stijn Bruins Slot fine in the next at bats. After retiring the side in the fifth, he gave up a lead-off single to Kelvin Knape in the sixth. Bruins Slot then struckout two of the next three batters and Knape stranded on second base.

In the seventh, Storks left another runner behind on second base. With one out, Luuk Visser walked, but two grounders followed.

Trailing 14-5, Storks scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Kelvin Knape singled and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. After striking out the next batter, a drive into the outfield by Joel Hernandez was dropped (which would have been the third out) and so, Knape scored. Hernandez went on to score on a double by Jurian Hansen, which was hit fourth basehit today. Hansen then scored himself on a single by Jurriaan Dijk to narrow the deficit to 14-8.

Short stop Stephen Henson pitched the ninth inning for Storks and gave up two runs. Lead-off hitter Emeron Lourens reached on an error. He then tried to advance to third base on a single in leftfield by Amar van Zwieten, but was eliminated after a throw by leftfielder Brian van der Vlist. Hereafter, the bases got loaded when Alberto Enrique Ostos was hit by a pitch and Denzel Brooks singled. A walk for Joran Berkhout and a sacrifice fly by Jordy Burger then lifted the lead to 16-8.

In the bottom of the ninth, Storks got two more baserunners. With two outs, Joost van den Bergh singled, then Kelvin Knape delivered his third basehit today. With runners on first and second base, Stijn Bruins Slot closed the game with his fifth strikeout.
