HCAW shuts out Storks with two big rallies
Nederlands

BUSSUM (Neth.) - HCAW shutout Silicon Storks 11-0 on Saturday (August 22) and finished the game in 6½ inning. With today's loss, combined with the win by league-leader Curaçao Neptunus, Storks was eliminated for first place.

In the opener on Thursday, HCAW turned a deficit around in the sixth inning and went on to win 8-2.

Today, after having scored one run in the first at bat, HCAW added two big rallies, scoring five runs in both the third and sixth inning.

HCAW had eleven basehits in today's game, including two by Berend Ruben and Bob van der Meer. Ruben scored three runs for HCAW, which today played for the first time in its new uniforms.

Luuk Visser accounted for three of the seven basehits Storks collected off of Dennis Burgersdijk, who went the distance for HCAW. With that, Burgersdijk was one two pitchers to throw a complete game today. The other was Lars Huijer (Hoofddorp Pioniers). Before today, no complete games were thrown yet in this season.

(August 22)

HCAW opened the score with one run in the bottom of the first inning off of Storks-starter Diornick Sanchez. The righthander began with a strikeout, but then gave up a double to Berend Ruben. He advanced on a grounder, then scored the first run on a single by Arthur Bonevacia.

The Bussum-squad rallied for five runs in the third at bat to take more distance. With one out, Jeandro Tromp was hit by a pitch and Berend Ruben walked. The two moved on a passed ball, then both scored on a following double by Patrick Bok. With two outs and first base open, Rodney Daal was walked intentionally, but hereafter, Kevin Dirksen delivered a 2-run double. He then scored the fifth run in this at bat when Bob van der Meer followed with a single.

HCAW also reached base off of Sanchez in the fourth, but the team left runners behind on second and third base. With one out, Jeandro Tromp singled and Berend Ruben walked. The first moved on a flyout, the latter stole second base, but then were left behind.

The team left runners behind on the same bases in the fifth. Lead-off hitter Rodney Daal was hit by a pitch and Kevin Dirksen walked. Hereafter, Nick Winkel took over the pitching for Storks. He saw the two runners advance on a grounder by Bob van der Meer, but struckout the next batter. A flyout by Raibiëntly Mercalina ended the at bat and so, HCAW left runners behind on second and third base in the second consecutive inning.

HCAW staged another 5-run rally in the sixth inning. Christopher Ge, who recently joined the team, led off as a pinch-hitter and walked, then the bases got loaded when Berend Ruben singled and Patrick Bok walked. With one out, Rodney Daal delivered a 2-run, ground-rule double. A sacrifice fly by Leandro Anasagasti, triple by Bob van der Meer and single by pinch-hitter Arthur Lugtmeijer accounted for the next three runs to lift the lead to 11-0.

Storks recorded seven basehits off of Dennis Burgersdijk, who went the distance for HCAW.

Storks appeared to open the score in the top of the first inning. With one out, Brian Raap doubled and Luuk Visser singled. But with runners at the corners, Burgersdijk struckout the next batter and a flyout ended the inning.

Storks got into scoring position again in the fourth. Luuk Visser and Ibrahin Redan opened with singles. This time, a force play and a double play followed.

In the next three innings, Storks got only two more baserunners, but didn't come into scoring position.
