Lefthander Brian van Laar started for Quick Amersfoort and encountered no problems in the first two innings.
But he then gave up HCAW's first run in the third without giving up a basehit.
He walked lead-off hitter Leando Anasagasti, who advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Berend Ruben and a grounder by Brennan Nijhof, then scored on a wild pitch.
Van Laar recovered, retired the side in the fourth, then was supported with a double play in the fifth.
Luuk ter Beek was the starter for HCAW.
The righthander, who last season played for Hoofddorp Pioniers, got some traffic on the bases in the first two innings, but held Quick scoreless.
In the first at bat, Quick stranded a runner on third base.
In the second, Tijmen Takke led off with a walk, then Runai Coran singled.
A flyout resulted in runners at the corners, but the HCAW then turned an inning-ending double play.
Ter Beek retired the side in the third inning, which began with debuting Bob Beaumont leading off with a single through the leftside of the infield.
However, after he had reached first base, HCAW's Head Coach Dè Flanegin came out to Home Plate Umpire Efrem Silvania to check the bat of Beaumont.
The bat was not on the approven list and with that, Beaumont was called out for using an illegal bat in his first big league at bat.
As such, the penalty for using an illegal bat not only is that the batter is ruled out, but also is ejected from the game.
In the fourth, Quick came alongside.
Rachid Engelhardt led off with a walk, advanced on a double by his brother Bryan Engelhardt, then also scored on a wild pitch with two outs.
Quick stranded a runner on third base in the fourth, then again in the fifth, but was retired in order in the sixth.
The team took the lead in the top of the seventh.
With one out, Taylor Clemensia tripled and scored on a following double by Alberto Enrique Ostos, which was his first big league basehit.
That led to a pitching change, as Luuk ter Beek was relieved by Gio de Graauw.
He retired the next two batters.
HCAW was retired in order in the fifth, then Quick turned a double play in the fifth.
In the sixth, Gilian Wernet took over the pitching for Quick and faced his former teammates.
Last season, he made his debut while playing for HCAW.
After Quick had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh, Wernet got the bases loaded in the seventh at bat of HCAW, which went on to score three runs.
Kevin Dirksen led off with a walk and Linoy Croes doubled.
With first base open, a force play was set up by walking Arthur Bonevacia intentionally.
With the bases loaded, Jan-Willem Geerts became the new pitcher for Quick.
He walked the next two batters, Leandro Anasagasti and Berend Ruben, which led to two runs.
Moments later, the third run was scored on a passed ball to give HCAW a 4-2 lead.
Former professional Wendell Floranus pitched the eighth inning for Quick.
He walked lead-off hitter Rodney Daal, who stole second base, while the next batter struckout.
Daal was then awarded third base on a balk, but Floranus followed with two more strikeouts.
Quick was able to narrow the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the ninth.
Runai Coran and Taylor Clemensia began with singles.
With one out, Coran scored on a sacrifice fly by Jordy Burger.
But hereafter, Gio de Graauw closed the game with a strikeout.
