AMERSFOORT (Neth.) - Quick Amersfoort has added outfielder and former Major Leaguer Roger Bernadina to its roster, the team confirmed on Monday (August 24). With that, Quick added another professional outfielder and player of the Netherlands National Baseball Team to its roster. Twelve days ago, outfielder Ademar Rifaela joined the team.

Bernadina, whose uniform number is not known yet, will be eligible for the team on Tuesday when it plays a make-up game at home against Curaçao Neptunus. The game was cancelled on Sunday, due to field-conditions after an early local rain-shower in the morning.

Bernadina, who turned 36 in June, played in 548 Major League-games in a 7-year period. The outfielder made his Major League-debut in 2008 as player of Washington Nationals for whom he then appeared in 26 games. In 2009, Bernadina played in three games for Washington.

From 2010 on, Bernadina, who nickname is The Shark, became a regular player in the Major Legue-team of Washington. He then played in 134 games and batted .246 with 102 basehits, including 11 homeruns. He scored 52 runs and batted in 47.

In 2011 and 2012, Bernadina played in 91 and 129 games respectively for Washington, hitting .243 and .291. In those seasons combined, he batted in 52 runs and belted twelve homeruns.

In 2013, Bernadina played for two teams in the Major League. He started the season with Washington, but was released on August 19 of that year. Two days later, he signed with Philadelphia Phillies. In this season, the Curaçao-born outfielder played in 85 games for Washington and 27 for Philadelphia. He homered twice for both teams, but got only eleven runs batted in this season.

2014 was the last year in which Bernadina played in the Major League. After the 2013 season, he was a Free Agent and then signed with Cincinnati Reds in January 2014. Bernadina appeared in 44 games with Cincinnati, hitting .153, but he was then released in June. A week later, Bernadina signed with Los Angeles Dodgers for whom he played in nine games, hitting .286.

Bernadina again was a Free Agent after the 2014 season. This time, he was signed by Colorado Rockies for whom he played in Triple-A (119 games) in 2015. After being a Free Agent again since November 2015, Bernadina signed with New York Mets in February 2016. After playing again the entire 2016 season in Triple-A (114 games), Bernadina was a Free Agent for the sixth time in November 2016.

In 548 Major League-games, Bernadina batted .236 (312-for-1323) with 56 doubles, eight triples and 28 homeruns. He scored 159 runs, batted in 121 and stole 59 bases.

After the 2016 season, Bernadina opted to play in South Korea. There, he played for Kia Tigers in 2017 and 2018. Two successful seasons, as he batted .320 and .310 respectively. In his two Korean seasons, Bernadina played in 270 games and collected 337 basehits with 47 homeruns, scored 224 runs and batted in 181.

In 2019, Bernadina played in another professional league in Asia. He then played for Lamigo Monkeys in Taiwan, appearing in 24 games and hitting .256. Also in 2019, he played in Mexico for Algodoneros de Union Laguna. For this team, Bernadina played in 34 games and batted .336.

Through the years, Bernadina also played in a professional Winter League five times. The first three in Venezuela (2008-2009, 2011-2012, 2014-2015). He then played in the Mexican Pacific Winter League in 2015-2016. Last Winter (2019-2020), Bernadina returned to Mexico. This time, he played in the Mexican Pacific Winter League for Algodoneros de Guasave. In 42 games, Bernadina batted .255 with three homeruns and 20 runs batted in.

Roger Bernadina signed his first professional contract in November 2001 with Montreal Expos, which moved to Washington in 2005. He made his professional debut in 2002 playing in the Rookie League-team of Montreal. In the following season, the outfielder promoted to Single-A. In 2007, he played in both Double-A and Triple-A. The next year, Bernadina also played at this level, but then also promoted to the Major League.

Before he turned professional, Bernadina played in (parts) of two seasons in the Dutch big league for Sparta-Feyenoord. In 2001, the outfielder played in 25 games and batted .237. The following season, Bernadina appeared in eight games for the Rotterdam-based team and batted .207. He then left the team to start his professional career in the organization of the Montreal Expos.

From 2006 on, Bernadina was also eligible to play for Neptunus for six seasons, but never played for team due to his professional activities.

In 2007, Roger Bernadina made his debut in the Netherlands National Team with whom he then participated in the European Championship in Barcelona (Spain). That event also had the status of Olympic Qualifying Tournament. The Orange-squad won the title and with that, it qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing (China). Later in 2007, Bernadina also participated with the Orange Team in the World Championship in Taipei (Taiwan). As Bernadina was on the 40-man roster of Washington Nationals in 2008, he was not eligible to play for the Netherlands in the Olympics.

He returned in the National Team in 2013 when he participated in the World Baseball Classic. There, the Netherlands reached the Semi-Final.

Bernadina played his next games in an Orange shirt in 2016 during the European Championship in Hoofddorp (Netherlands).
