Twins Oosterhout turns deficit into win against Storks
Nederlands

OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) - Twins Oosterhout faced an early 3-0 deficit on Saturday (July 25) in its second game of the season against Silicon Storks, but came back to win 5-3. On Thursday, Twins recorded a comfortable 12-4 win.

In today's game, Storks scored three runs in the first inning, but then was held scoreless in the remainder of the game. Twins took over the lead in the sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh.

Both teams collected nine basehits. Joel Hernandez, Stephen Henson, Ibrahin Redan (all Storks), Tyriq Kemp and Brian Biezen (both Twins) all had two basehits in today's game.

(July 25)

Storks had a productive first at bat off of Twins-starter Koen Postelmans. The righthander struckout the first batter he faced, but then gave up three consecutive basehits. Stephen Henson, Luuk Visser and Ibrahin Redan all singled to load the bases. Postelmans followed with another strikeout, but then gave up a baseclearing, 3-run double to Jurriaan Dijk.

But that was to be it for Storks. In the remainder of the game, the team was held scoreless. Storks added five more basehits, but got only one more runner in scoring position.

In the second inning, two Storks-runners were caught stealing. In the third, the Twins-defense turned a double play. In the sixth, a Storks-runner was picked off first base. With that, Postelmans recovered after the first inning and pitched six more solid innings.

Storks-starter Jayden Gonesh, who made his big league-debut, began with two strikeouts and retired the side in his first inning. In his second inning, the righthander got the bases loaded. With one out, Ruendrick Piternella singled, Dave Janssen walked and Brian Biezen also singled. Jerzy van Gool followed with a line drive, but that was caught by second baseman Jurian Hansen. A flyout ended the inning and the three runners were left behind.

From the third inning, Twins started to come back and scored its first (unearned) run. Tyriq Kemp led off with a walk and stole second base. Hereafter, he advanced to third base when a pick-off attempt ended in a throwing error. After next batter Rayshelon Carolina had walked, Kemp scored on a grounder by Jason Halman.

Twins added another run in the fourth inning. This time, Brian Biezen led off with a walk. Wit two outs, the bases got loaded when Tyriq Kemp and Rayshelon Carolina also walked. The run was then scored on a wild pitch. Kemp and Carolina stranded on second and third base.

With one out in the fifth, Ruendrick Piternella walked, which led to a pitching change. José Moreno took over for Gonesh, who gave up only two basehits and struckout six batters, but he also walked eight batters. Piternella was caught stealing.

In the sixth, Twins took over the lead. Brian Biezen led off with a walk and Jerzy van Gool singled. The two advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Mick Vos, then respectively scored the tying and go-ahead run on a following 2-run single by Tyriq Kemp.

In the opener on Thursday, Kemp was 5-for-5 and reached base in all his six plate appearances. Today, he struckout in his first at bat, but then reached base again in his next four. He walked twice and batted 2-for-3, meaning he is now 7-for-8 after two games.

Leading 4-3, Twins added an insurance run in the seventh. Ruendrick Piternella led off with his third walk. Last Thursday, he walked in his first three at bats. His pinch-runner Max Kops moved on an one-out single by Brian Biezen and scored on a 2-out double by Mick Vos.

Pastor Enrique Martínez Chavez threw the final two innings for Twins. In both innings, he got two baserunners, but each time, he was supported with a double play. And so, he held Storks scoreless and earned a save.
