ROTTERDAM (Neth.) -
The opener of the 3-game series between HCAW and Curaçao Neptunus was suspended for the second day in a row on Friday-evening (September 25).
On Thursday-evening, the game was halted in the top of the second inning when a foul ball destroyed a lamp in one of the light-towers.
At that moment, Neptunus had runners on first and third base with no outs in a scoreless game.
The remainder of the game was re-scheduled for tonight.
As it was not possible to fix the light-installation in Bussum today, the game was moved to the site of opponent Neptunus in Rotterdam.
However, today was a rainy day.
Everyone hoped to start at the scheduled time of 7:30 PM, but when that was not possible, the start was postponed.
However, at 8:06 PM, the game was cancelled.
At that time, the adjusted and preliminary line-ups for tonight's remainder had been handed in to the Official Scorers.
Both teams made some changes in their original line-up of Thursday.
For Neptunus, Benjamin Dille replaced centerfielder Shaldimar Daantji and was listed as the new first baseman.
With that, 1B Dudley Leonora moved to second base and 2B Dwayne Kemp was to play in centerfield.
Diegomar Markwell, who started on Thursday-evening, also was to throw tonight.
For HCAW, Dennis Burgersdijk was to take over the pitching from Luuk ter Beek, who started on Thursday.
The team also inserted three other new players.
Arthur Lugtmeijer replaced leftfielder Arthur Bonevacia, Raibiëntly Mercalina replaced short stop Bob van der Meer and rookie Mees Robberse was listed as new second baseman, replacing Christopher Ge.
As there never had been a coach/umpire meeting to re-start the game, these adjusted line-ups never were handed in to the umpires and therefore were not official.
With that, all changes made for tonight's remainder can be erased , which means that the original line-up from Thursday still will be the starting line-up when the game resumes.
When the game was halted tonight, it was not immediately known when it would resume, while it was expected that that would be coming Monday.
Both teams meet each other on Saturday and Sunday, then Neptunus will play its first make-up game against L&D Amsterdam Pirates coming Tuesday-evening.
However, later in the evening, it was confirmed that the remainder indeed has been re-scheduled for coming Monday-evening in Bussum.
