In the top of the first inning, Pioniers was retired in order by Steven van Groningen, including two strikeouts.
The bottom of the first inning began with a discussion and a protest.
The umpiring crew informed the Pioniers-coaching that the light color of first baseman Tyler Boersma's glove was not allowed and that he had to change it.
A discussion followed between Pioniers Head Coach Mervin Gario and the umpires with Pioniers stating that in their opinion the glove was allowed.
The glove was replaced, but Pioniers played the remainder of the game under protest.
The second inning also went by without runs, but was not without action.
In the top of the second inning, Tyler Boersma led off with a walk, then Victor Draijer followed with a double.
With one out, Boersma was eliminated at the plate trying to score on a grounder towards third base by Jaison Gijsbertha.
With Draijer on second base, the at bat ended with a strikeout.
Just before the start of the bottom of the second inning, 1B Umpire Richard Wessel ejected first baseman Tyler Boersma, as he had returned to the field with the same glove that was rejected.
For Wessel, this was his first ejection in only his fourth game in the highest league.
Wessel made his big league-debut last season when he officiated in one regular season-game.
But in the end, the rules were clear.
Rule 3.07(a) states that ''no fielder, whatever his positon, is allowed to use a glove which has a color lighter than the 14-series Pantone-colorsetting''.
After the game, Pioniers withdraw the protest.
When the game resumed, Pioniers-starter Scott Prins began with a strikeout.
He then gave up a single to Koen Halderman, but he was caught stealing.
Pioniers then rallied for six runs in the top of the third inning.
Jorrit Penseel led off with a walk and Raul Jacobs singled.
After the two had advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Mark Smit, a force play was set up by walking Max Draijer intentionally.
However, the force play didn't come and Pioniers scored six runs.
Instead, Duco Nuijten hit a runscoring single, which was followed by a runscoring outfield-error.
The bases got loaded again when Victor Draijer walked.
Another run was scored when next batter Joey Eeman also walked.
The scoring continued hereafter thanks to a sacrifice fly by Jaison Gijsbertha and runscoring singles by Nolan Beugeling and Jorrit Penseel.
With Pioniers now leading 6-0, the first pitching change was made, as Rick Timmermans took over from Steven van Groningen.
In the fourth, Pioniers got the bases loaded again.
With one out, Max Draijer doubled, Duco Nuijten was hit by a pitch and Victor Draijer singled, but a double play ended the at bat.
The top of the fifth had the defensive highlight of the game.
Jaison Gijsbertha led off with a double, then Nolan Beugeling flied out.
Next batter Jorrit Penseel hit a pop-fly into foul territory near the third base dug-out.
DSS/Kinheim third baseman Kevin Nieveld ran towards the fence, dived and caught the ball.
However, it jumped up from his glove, but somehow Nieveld, who was now on the ground, managed to get his glove back under the ball and caught it for the second time.
As the ball never touched the ground, it was an out, as called by Home Plate Umpire André Ficken, who was on top of the play and had a clear view of what was happening.
Gijsbertha stranded on second base.
In the meantime, Pioniers-starter Scott Prins did very well and didn't encounter problems in the second, third and fourth inning.
But in the bottom of the fifth, DSS/Kinheim ralied for four runs and chased the pitcher from the mound.
With one out, Nick Hofer connected for his first big league-basehit, then Jeldwin Orman walked.
Thomas Bos also singled, but that was followed by an outfield-error, resulting in a run.
Next, the bases got loaded when Jochem Koedijk walked and that led to a pitching change.
Prins was replaced by Nick Loos, who was greeted with a runscoring single by Tommy van de Sanden.
Hereafter, Tino van Erk hit a sacrifice fly and Kevin Nieveld added an RBI-single that narrowed the deficit to 6-4.
But DSS/Kinheim left runners behind on second and third base, as a grounder ended the at bat.
Pioniers immediately reacted with a 5-run rally in the top of the sixth inning.
Martijn Schoonderwoerd started the inning as third pitcher for DSS/Kinheim, but ran into problems.
He struckout lead-off hitter Mark Smit, but he reached on a wild pitch and later stole second base.
With one out, Smit scored when an error was made on a grounder by Duco Nuijten, then Victor Draijer added an RBI-double.
A single by Joey Eeman and a walk for Jaison Gijsbertha loaded the bases and brought in a new pitcher.
Lefthander Calvin Andringa took over, but saw another run being scored on a sacrifice fly by Nolan Beugeling.
With runners on second and third base, a wild pitch followed by a throwing error led to two more runs and lifted the lead to 11-4.
An error and a walk re-loaded the bases, then DSS/Kinheim Head Coach Michael Crouwel came out of the dug-out to make another pitching change.
Moreno Vork took over and got an inning-ending grounder, meaning three runners were left behind.
Pioniers was held scoreless in its final three innings, as was DSS/Kinheim in the seventh and eighth.
Trailing 11-4, DSS/Kinheim scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
With one out, Donny Kuijper doubled off of Daniël Vos, who had come in to pitch for Pioniers in the eighth.
Kuijper moved on a wild pitch, then Bram Blokker was hit by a pitch.
Another wild pitch followed, enabling Kuijper to score.
When next batter Jochem Koedijk walked, Pioniers also made another pitching change.
Yassir Lachkar took over, but before he could throw his first pitch another discussion followed, as he also was wearing a light-colored glove.
After the glove was changed, Blokker and Koedijk advanced on a wild pitch, then the bases got loaded when Tommy van de Sanden walked.
Tino van Erk followed with a 2-run single that narrowed the deficit to 11-7.
With two runners on base, the next pitching change was made.
Angelo Wicklert took over in what had now become a save-situation.
He began with a strikeout, then a flyout ended the inning and the long game.
And it earned Wicklert a save.
