Starting Pitchers coming series; Rob Cordemans chases 200th win
Nederlands
AMSTERDAM (Neth.) -
Most probable starting pitchers for the upcoming 3-game series have been announced.
Of course, as always, starting assignments can change on game-days.
On Thursday-evening, veteran righthander Rob Cordemans will be making his third start of the season for L&D Amsterdam Pirates in the opener of the 3-game series against HCAW.
Cordemans was the starting pitcher for Pirates on Opening Night, July 23, against Curaçao Neptunus.
With his team leading that evening, he was hit on his elbow by a hard comeback-grounder in the bottom of the fifth inning and left the game.
He missed 1/3 inning to become the winning pitcher, but he had to settle for a no-decision.
Last Thursday, Cordemans returned to the mound, but then only threw the first two innings.
The first time Cordemans wins a game this season will be his 200th career victory to become the first pitcher in history to reach this mark.
Besides winning his 200th game, Cordemans can reach another milestone on Thursday.
He needs only two innings to reach the 2,000 innings pitched mark.
In other news...
Hoofddorp Pioniers changed its starting rotation for the coming series against Quick Amersfoort.
Lars Huijer, who had been the Game 2 starter so far, is not in the rotation at the moment.
Coming Tuesday, Pioniers also will play another make-up game.
Catchers Tyler Boersma and Jaison Gijsbertha and pitcher Sem Lauf are currently injured.
DSS/Kinheim also adjusted its rotation.
Last week, Steven van Groningen, who had been the Game 3 starter so far, took the mound in the opener against L&D Amsterdam Pirates.
Jelle Bing, who had started the openers, then pitched in Game 3.
For the upcoming series, Van Groningen again starts Game 1, but Game 2 starter Glenn Wassink now has been moved to Game 3, while Bing starts Game 2.
Silicon Storks has added 25-year old Lithuanian catcher Kestas Vilimas to its roster.
Since 2018 though this year, Vilimas played in Sweden for Sölvesborg Firehawks and Bromölla Monsters.
While playing for these teams, Vilimas also played in some games as catcher, first baseman, second baseman and outfielder.
Last year, Vilimas played for the National Team of Lituania with whom he then won the B-Pool of the European Championship.
With that, Lithuania promoted to the A-Pool.
Also playing for the team was his twin-brother Robertas Vilimas, who is a lefthanded pitcher.
Vilimas (the first Lithuanian player in the Dutch big league) made his debut on Tuesday-evening in the make-up game against Hoofddorp Pioniers.
Coming Tuesday, the two teams will meet again in a make-up game, which will be played in Heemstede.
