Tonight, Round 7 in Dutch big league was to start ahead of international event
Nederlands
HOOFDDORP / BUSSUM / AMERSFOORT / ROTTERDAM (Neth.) -
The seventh 3-game series of the 2020 regular season in the Dutch big league was to open tonight (Thursday, May 28).
However, the baseball-season is currently on hold, as all regular season-games have been annuled through June 30 because of measures taken against the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
New dates have not yet been announced.
When concluded coming weekend, this seventh series was to close the first half of the season in which all eight teams have feaced each other in a 3-game series.
It also was a series of which the schedule was slightly adjusted, as an international event was approaching.
Dutch reigning champion L&D Amsterdam Pirates and Holland Series-loser Curaçao Neptunus were scheduled to play tonight, tomorrow-evening and on Saturday.
Thereafter, the two teams were scheduled to travel to Ostrava in the Czech Republic to particiapte in this years tournament for the European Champions Cup.
That event was to open next Tuesday at Arrows Family Park, the home-site of Arrows Ostrava.
The tournament was cancelled on April 1 by the European Baseball Confederation (CEB) due to the coronavirus.
From March 12 on, the Government of the Netherlands regularly announced several (strict) measures due to the coronavirus.
In a following update on May 6, a little more freedom was announced, but it was also said that official games and competitions remain prohibited through September 1.
The latest update was last Wednesday (May 27).
On May 12, the Royal Netherlands Baseball and Softball Association (KNBSB) announced that it has annuled all official regular season games in all baseball/softball leagues through Tuesday, June 30.
The KNBSB is in talks with the NOC*NSF (Netherlands Olympic Committee/Netherlands Sports Federations) regarding options how to continue, as it still hopes a new season can be played this year.
We don't know when, but baseball and softball of course also will be back in the Netherlands!
Of course only when it is safe to do so for everyone involved.
Until then, take care and stay safe!
And yes, today (Thursday) was another nice and sunny day.
And as HCAW was playing at home tonight, we might have seen another sun-delay tonight.
But unfortunately, the fields were empty.
Beneath are the games that were scheduled to be played tonight with the assignments of the game-officials.
