DSS/Kinheim closes exhibition season with split in Belgium

HOBOKEN (Belgium) -
DSS/Kinheim closed its exhibiton season with a weekend in Belgium, where the Haarlem-team was the guest of Hoboken Pioneers.
The two teams played a 9-inning game on both Saturday (April 2) and Sunday (April 3) at the site of Pioneers in Hoboken, which is a suburb (and district) of Antwerp.
On a very cold Saturday-afternoon, Nick Boxelaar, Robi Rizvić, Moreno Vork and Robyn Clara took the mound for DSS/Kinheim, which recorded a 7-1 victory.
On Sunday, it was Hoboken that won 7-6.
This time, Kaien Oukes, Rick Timmermans, Bas Timmer, Ben Neijndorff and Robyn Clara pitched for DSS/Kinheim.
In the past few weeks, several other Dutch teams also traveled abroad to either Germany or Belgium to play games there.
The results of those games were not important, as the trips were considered as teambuilding-weekends.
The most important thing was to be together, getting to know each other better and play games.
DSS/Kinheim's Head Coach Michael Crouwel used all his players and was satisfied.
,,It was a fun weekend'', he said, looking back to the weekend in Hoboken.
,,I must give a compliment to all my players.
And Hoboken Pioneers was a very good host and on Saturday, they served us a Flemish dinner.
That tasted well.
I've never been there before, but its a nice accomodation.
Although it was cold, we played two 9-inning games and that was good.
And despite the weather, we luckily sustained no injuries.''
With that, DSS/Kinheim will begin the new season with only one player on the Disabled List.
That is first baseman Marcel Tolenaars, who is injured since July of last season.
He will be out for the entire season this year.
DSS/Kinheim opens the new season on Thursday with a 3-game series against Curaçao Neptunus.
On Thursday and Sunday away in Rotterdam.
On Saturday, at home in Haarlem.
