Pilot-Pool: RCH-Pinguïns also wins second game against Quick Amersfoort
Nederlands

AMERSFOORT (Neth.) - RCH Memorie Sieraden outscored Quick Amersfoort also in the second game of their series in the Major League/First Division Pilot-Pool, winning 4-1 on Saturday (September 3). The first game on Thursday-evening ended in an 8-0 shutout-win.

With the win, RCH-Pinguïns moved into second place, while Quick dropped to third place. Before today, Quick shared first place with UVV.

In the other two series in this Pool, the teams also played their second game.

After the first game ended in a 10-10 tie on Thursday-evening, UVV today recorded a huge 17-2 victory (6½ inning) in the second game against the second team of Twins Oosterhout.

Sparks Haarlem won 12-9 at home against Silicon Storks. On Thursday, it was Storks that opened with a 5-3 score.

All three series will close on Sunday.

(September 3)

RCH-Pinguïns collected only two more basehits than Quick Amersoort, but four of these hits contribute to three early runs. That gave the team from Heemstede a 3-0 lead after three innings and that never came into jeopardy. An insurance run was added in the sixth. Quick scored its lone run in the seventh inning.

Quick-starter Jack Wagner initially encountered no problems. He retired the side in the first inning (one strikeout), then struckout two of the first batters he faced in the second at bat. After striking out the lead-off hitter, the righthander walked Yurdion Martie, but Wagner followed with another strikeout. With two outs, Sebastiaan van der Horst singled, then Teun van der Meer delivered an RBI-single. That brought Van der Horst to third base, while Van der Meer moved to second base on the throw to the plate. But the inning ended when Van der Meer was picked off second base by catcher Rodney Daal.

RCH added two more runs in the next at bat. With one out in the top of the third and Thijs Kwakernaak (fielder's choice plus error) on second base, it was Leandro Anasagasti who produced a runscoring single. Jesse Aussems followed with a double and that also enabled Anasagasti to score and make it a 3-0 score.

Jack Wagner recovered after giving up four hits and three runs in the previous two at bats, as he retired the side again in the fourth. In the fifth, he walked Thomas Kwakernaak with one out, but he stranded on first base.

In the top of the sixth inning, Stijn Bruins Slot took over the pitching for Quick. In this at bat, the righthander gave up the fourth RCH-run. With two outs, pinch-hitter Daan Groenewoud singled and Sebastiaan van der Horst walked. Moments later, Groenewoud scored on a single by Geoffrey Verhoef.

In the final three innings, RCH got three more baserunners. Bruins Slot retired the side (two strikeouts) in the seventh. With two outs in the eighth, he again gave up a single to Groenewoud and also walked Van der Horst again. This time, he closed with a strikeout. In the ninth, with a runner on first base, the Quick-defense turned a double play.

RCH-starter Sven van de Sanden threw five-plus scoreless innings. Quick got several scoring opportunities, but the righthander gave up no runs.

With two outs in the second inning, Rodney Daal singled for Quick and Pascal Zegwaard walked, but a grounder ended the at bat. In the fourth inning, with his team leading 3-0, Van de Sanden gave up a lead-off single to Ibrahin Redan, then walked Jorge Hernandez Morantes. With one out, Quick got the bases loaded when Daal singled again. Hereafter, an infield-fly accounted for the second out and again, a grounder ended the inning, meaning three runners were left behind.

With two outs in the fifth, Quick got another runner in scoring position. Emeron Lourens then singled and got second base via a balk, but stranded on second base.

In the sixth, RCH now led 4-0, Van de Sanden got runners on second and third base. He gave up a lead-off single to Jorge Hernandez Morantes, then walked Irving Redan. The two moved on a wild pitch and with that, Quick had two runners in scoring position with no outs. This time, Rodney Daal popped out. After Van de Sanden struckout the next batter, he was relieved by Joel Martis. He closed the at bat with a strikout, ending this scoring opportunity for the home-team.

In the bottom of the seventh, Martis gave up the lone Quick-run. With one out, Jordy Burger tripled and scored on a following grounder by Emeron Lourens, which made it a 4-1 score.

Martis retired the side in the eighth, but then got the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, he walked Marvin Jakobus and with two outs, Jordy Burger reached on an error and Emeron Lourens walked. With three runners on base, Moreno Vork was inserted as new pitcher. He got a grounder from Ibrahin Redan and that ended not only this scoring opportunity, but also the game. And it earned Vork a save.
