Starting Pitchers coming postseason-series
Nederlands
AMSTERDAM (Neth.) -
Coming Thursday-evening (September 8), the best-of-seven Holland Series opens with HCAW and Curaçao Neptunus meeting each other in the deciding series for the Dutch Championship-title.
However, the weather predictions aren't that favorable for Thursday, as there is a 70% chance of rain.
It will rain in the morning (and the preceeding night).
In the afternoon, it will somewhat clear up, but (thunder)showers remain possible.
Rain is also expected for Friday and Saturday.
Three weeks ago, Neptunus became the first team to reach the Final after completing a 3-0 sweep against Twins Oosterhout in the best-of-five Play-Offs.
Two weeks ago, HCAW won its series against reigning champion L&D Amsterdam Pirates, 3-1.
With that, Pirates was dethroned and eliminated.
It will mark the ninth Holland Series between HCAW and Neptunus.
That also means that we will have a new champion this year.
Pirates won the title in 2019 and 2021 when it defeated Neptunus.
In between, the Amsterdam-team led 2-0 against Neptunus in the 2020 Series, but that then halted due to new measures against the coronavirus.
Neptunus won its last title in 2018 and will play in its eleventh consecutive Holland Series and 28th overal (which includes the halted Series in 2020).
HCAW won its last title in 1998 when it won the Final against Neptunus.
Thereafter, the teams met in six more Series, which were all won by Neptunus.
HCAW participates for the first time in the Final in seventeen years.
The last time was in 2005 when it also played against Neptunus.
This will be HCAW's eleventh participation in a Holland Series.
For the first three games, HCAW has announced the probable starting pitchers.
Neptunus has not announced or confirmed its starters, but on Thursday-morning, it was reported that it probably will be the same three who also started the Play-Offs.
HCAW also confirmed that Canadian pitcher Jared Mortensen and Curaçao-infielder Phildrick Llewellyn will be on its Holland Series-roster.
On June 23, Mortensen briefly was the rightfielder for the Bussum-team in the Dutch big league to make him eligible for the postseason in the Netherlands.
Three weeks earlier, on June 2, Llewellyn was the third baseman for HCAW.
This season, both played in the German 1.Bundesliga, Llewellyn for Paderborn Untouchables, Mortensen for Heidenheim Heideköpfe.
As the German season has now come to an end, the two were added to the active roster of HCAW.
Also beginning on Thursday is the fourth 3-game series in the Major League/First Division Pilot-Pool.
Beneath are the announced starters for the games in the upcoming series.
As always, these assignments can change on game-days.
Also listed again are the assigned game-officials for these postseason-series (as of Wednesday, September 7).
Sometimes, these assignments can change or a Technical Commissioner can be added later.
